One night in Tokyo we found ourselves roaming among a ton of outdoor restaurants. I became enthralled with the lights and the textures especially with the rainy atmosphere. Everyone looked like they were having such a delightful time.
One day in small town Japan, we went to visit a shrine. Since it was a holiday, people were gathered for a big community meal. We tried to leave quickly to not bother them, but they insisted we stay and we were heartily offered bamboo and mushroom soup fresh from the pot, cold beers, and sweet teas. My sister translated as best she could and we got to learn about each other - and even learn that we all lived in Alaska at one point. They took a group photo of all of us together. It was so special. What a small, beautiful world. We are all so close together.
Today is my birthday! With this birthday portrait, I’ve now been making portraits for my birthday for half of my life. 🥹 It’s such a delight and honor to watch myself grow over the years, and create art documenting the entire journey. The years fly by faster and faster, and the words I wrote for my birthday last year still echo in my mind every day and continue to move me forward, hone me in, and expand me. I love getting to live my life, experiencing and creating the world through my eyes, and I feel really grateful to have reached this place. I love getting to be me! Thirty one was so much fun, I’m so ready to see what this next cycle around the sun will bring to me, and what I will bring to it. ❤️ Go make some art today! My 2025 highlights reel. The smallest amount of all the wacky adventures and misadventures. I worked harder and played harder than I ever have before and it was the most fun I’ve ever had, I can’t wait to do even more of it in 2026. Every year it feels less like a culmination and more of an endless continuation of this weird and wonderful life. I love getting to be here. 💚

It’s a true Christmas miracle, I got my Japan film back from @bluemooncamera today 💙 This was one of the photos I was most excited for, on a walk to the vending machine in my sister’s countryside town. I need to go back soon, it was truly so magical. And prepare yourselves now for much more film in the near future.
Film from the holidays last year, going up to Washington and Alaska to see some snow. I think about the first image a lot, at one of the best burger places in Anchorage at a rare time when we were almost the only people there, which made for a great chance for me to roam around the restaurant and photograph while waiting for our food.
