floor introductions pt. 2: Bistro For this edition we’re turning our Bistro back into a cozy listening space, guided by Breac & Katt.Monroe, pique dame and @_susu030 to soothe (or surprise) weary ravers and curious listeners. 𝗕𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗰 has been regularly transmitting alternative and left-field pop music via Character Creation, a show co-hosted with Gem on Gatekeeper Radio. This time he’s joined by 𝗞𝗮𝘁𝘁.𝗠𝗼𝗻𝗿𝗼𝗲 to debut their unique selection of experimental and dubbed out sounds. To open our listening space, S𝘂𝗿𝗮𝘆𝗮 is revealing a more introspective side; tracks listened to on lonely nights, to regain strength and prepare for brighter days. Floor introductions pt. 1: The Hall For this round our friend Janosch is bringing his custom-built Baba Yaga Soundsystem to the Hall. After making its first appearance outdoors with @kultur.sympuls this summer, we’re now taking it inside with the full stack, where it can finally unfold its full bassweight the way it’s meant to be heard. @ophelieeeee__ is a French, Berlin-based DJ and producer with an affinity for low frequencies, intricate percussions and bass-heavy music in all its forms. Their sound sits at the intersection of dubstep, techno and IDM, touched with hints of psychedelic music and trance, weaving low-end pressure, organic textures and layered rhythms into a fluid, immersive world. With ophélies Refuge Worldwide residency just turning four, regular gigs all over Europe and recent performances at standout festivals like Atonal and Draaimolen, we’re excited to hear what they’ll bring to our night! 𝗷𝗮𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗴𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲 is our latest crew member and she’s quickly found her groove over the last year. Radio Impuls w/ Bruce Now on SoundCloud (link in bio) *swipe for more info* Better late than never! Here is, finally, the show that aired nearly half a year ago. But one of the shows I am especially proud of. For this show of "Radio Impuls" I had the great honour to record an interview with Bristol (UK) local hero Larry McCarthy aka @snapsofbruce . Thanks to Larry for engaging with the DIY-approach of the show, that hit especially hard, when the rain water from the roof came down on us mid-interview in the Bistro of the Mensa (I cut all our surprised screams out haha). Thanks for doing the show with me and keeping up with my bad English. And thanks for the great evening at the Rempart Rave all around! Bruce is internationally recognised for his eclectic DJ sets. But he has also made a name for himself in the UK club and experimental music scene with releases on labels such as Livity Sound, Hessle Audio, Timedance and Hemlock. In the words of Resident Advisor: "Larry McCarthy creates postmodern rhythmic drama at the burning intersection of UK dance music." He has since founded his own label @poorlyknit_uk . In the context of our invitation to the Rempart Rave in Freiburg in December 2024, I seized the opportunity to interview him about his new project, which moves away from more strictly club music in the direction of ‘avantgarde pop’ - and in which Bruce lets his voice take centre stage musically, as you can here on his album from December 2023: "Not Ready For Love". The show contained our interview and a part of his set, that he played in the Mensa at the Rempart Rave. It also contained a preview of his track "Golden Water Queen" that is already released. Both of them are also involved in organising parties: tutto ben in Hamburg with Kollektiv Küche 27 and maraculix with our good friends from Nachaktiv and Sympuls here in Freiburg. Radio Impuls is generally about electronic music. It focuses on the curiosity for the sound, history and developments of experimental genres that develop at the boundaries of club music. The show centres around the questions of how different subgenres influence each other and how this relates to the subcultural scene, specific artists, labels and locations. On a sound level, the programme is a continuation of what the Impuls Crew in Freiburg aims to do by DJing and organising parties, among other things: To create curiosity in order to remain curious about other, new left-field sounds within electronic club music. For the last few years, Impuls Crew has been showcasing all shades of bass music and other leftfield sounds with their Rempart Rave series.
