The Trump administration has announced its intent to strike down a conservation measure that has prevented millions of acres of forests on public lands from being handed over to the timber industry for logging. đł
Across 38 states and Puerto Rico, the Roadless Rule was enacted in 2001 to protect about 30% of all national forest lands, keeping them intact for wildlife habitat, recreation, and more.
Without it, these forests could be opened up for roadbuilding, other construction, and timber harvest. According to @earthjustice , the top environmental law nonprofit in the U.S., this move would pose major risks to both people and the environment.
