*IMO STATE POLICE COMMAND PRESS RELEASE OF 16TH JANUARY, 2025* *POWA EMPOWERS 200 POLICE FAMILIES IN IMO, BOOSTING MORALE AND HONOURING THE SACRIFICES OF FALLEN AND INJURED HEROS* The President of the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA) and wife of the 22nd Indigenous Inspector-General of Police, Dr. Mrs. Elizabeth Egbetokun on January 16, 2025, empowered 200 police families in Imo State. The event, held at the Command Headquarters in Owerri, was designed to provide support to the wives of serving officers, as well as the families of those who have fallen or been injured in the line of duty. Speaking at the event, the POWA President urged the beneficiaries to utilize the resources in ways that would create sustainable livelihoods for themselves and their children. The donated items included 19 sewing machines, 10 fridges, 10 pumping machines, 50 bags of rice, 50 cartons of indomie, 50 five-liter gallons of groundnut oil, 40 bags of fertilizer, and 25 grinding machines. The Commissioner of Police in Imo State, CP Aboki Danjuma, expressed his sincere appreciation to the POWA president for the initiative and thanked the Executive Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodinma, for his continued support to the families of fallen and injured officers. He also acknowledged the significant efforts of the IGP in enhancing the welfare of police families across the Nation. The Deputy Governor of Imo State, Her Excellency Lady Dr. Chinyere Ekomaru, and the Chairman of the Council of Traditional Rulers and Community Policing, the Eze Imo, warmly welcomed the POWA president and her team. They noted that such initiatives not only meet immediate needs but also inspire serving officers to serve with renewed dedication. Mrs. Jemima Aboki, Chairperson of POWA Imo State chapter and wife of the Commissioner of Police, expressed her gratitude to Dr. Egbetokun for her continued commitment to uplifting police families in Imo and beyond. The event, held on Monday, 23rd December 2024, at the Police Headquarters in Owerri, included essential items such as bags of rice, a live cow, and monetary gifts. During the ceremony, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, DCP Sirajo Fana, conveyed the Commissioner of Police’s assurance to the widows of deceased officers. He emphasized that under CP Danjuma’s leadership, the welfare of officers’ families is a priority, especially during the festive season, and encouraged them to remain strong and resilient. Mrs. Gift Richard Ubi, who spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries, expressed profound gratitude for the generous gesture. *IMO POLICE COMMAND PRESS STATEMENT OF SUNDAY 1ST DECEMBER, 2024* *POLICE REINFORCE BAN ON PYROTECHNICS IN IMO, ASSURE ENHANCED SECURITY FOR YULETIDE CELEBRATIONS* The Imo State Police Command reiterates that the ban on the sale, use, and distribution of pyrotechnics, commonly known as “knockouts” or “bangers,” remains fully enforced across the state. This measure, in place for some time, is essential for public safety, preventing injuries, and reducing the risks of fires and accidents caused by fireworks. With the festive season approaching, the Command warns that any individual or group caught in possession of or using pyrotechnics—whether during public holidays, festivals, or private events—will be arrested and face severe legal consequences. The Command will continue to conduct regular patrols and operations to ensure strict compliance with this directive. *IMO POLICE COMMAND PRESS STATEMENT OF 26TH NOVEMBER, 2024* *CP ABOKI DANJUMA REAFFIRMS IMO POLICE COMMAND’S COMMITMENT TO ENFORCING VAPP LAW AT GBV ADVOCACY EVENT.* The Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Aboki Danjuma, has reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to enforcing the Imo State Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Law, 2021. He made this statement during an address to Imo women, led by the Honourable Commissioner for the Imo State Ministry of Women Affairs, Hon. Lady Nkechinyere Ugwu, at a special advocacy event on 26th November 2024. The event was part of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence (GBV), a global initiative aimed at raising awareness and eliminating violence against women, children, and other vulnerable groups in the State. During the event, Hon. Lady Nkechinyere Ugwu, former member representing Njaba Constituency, Rt. Hon. Uju Onwudiwe, and the Special Adviser to the Executive Governor of Imo State on Women Affairs, Hon. Mathew Ovye and other security agencies visited Umucheke Community in Onuimo LGA for an on-the-spot assessment of the tragic incident that claimed the lives of over 8 members of Eze Umucheke Cabinet yesterday who were gruesomely murdered by hoodlums suspected to be members of the proscribed IPOB/ESN. CP Aboki Danjuma commiserated with the families of the bereaved and the entire community members over the unfortunate death of their loved ones and assured them that security agencies in the State are working in synergy to apprehend the miscreants responsible for the dastardly act and make them face the full wrath of the law.
