During the last few years I’ve grown increasingly obsessed with oil painting. Like most people my interests started with Van Gogh, but over the years I found the work of Sargent and Zorn more and more fascinating. The blend of realism and abstraction (in the brush work) I find profoundly beguiling. This is one from the Kenwood exhibition in London, a four hour round trip on a train is absolutely worth it.
I had an amazing time playing Latvia and Lithuania last weekend. @pacifickmusic were awesome and a lovely bunch of chaps too, they’re definitely worth checking out. Photo credit : @aukstums

Today, we travelled down to London’s incredible @abbeyroadstudios to finish our second album with Mastering Engineer (and all round super-lovely guy) Alex Gordon. He’s been at Abbey Road for two decades and worked with countless artists including; @olafurarnalds , @cocteauofficial , @lordoftherings soundtracks from Howard Shore, @florenceandthemachine , @the1975 , @thisissigrid , @raye and hundreds more!
To everyone who bought a ticket to our fundraiser show at @saltboxbar earlier this year, it was because of you that we were able to make this happen. You’ve directly supported a Nottingham band in reaching a dream and helping their album to get finished off at one of the most prestigious studios in the world. Thank you for your patience and continued support.
We are so pleased with how this album is sounding and we can’t wait to share it with the world once we find a label to work with for its release. As we say “We’re moving on up”!

My attempt at realism, I think I’m beginning to understand values better, however my tendency to draw what I think I see not what I actually see still gets in the way often.
P.S this was a self portrait of a scream not a yawn, the mere fact I feel I have to make that distinction shows there’s obviously still loads of progress to make. Ha!
I started out planning to only map the lines and structure of the face but as so often happens I got into a flow and within an hour got it to this point. I hit a wall where my lack of knowledge on how to progress a piece meant I started making arbitrary marks, so I decided to stop. The key now, I’m sure, will be for me to research not the things I know I need to learn, but the things I don’t even know about, if that makes sense?
