A chairde,
My oh my how May doth fly by!
We are nearly at the mid point of the flowering month of May where so much has come alive in the nature all around, the Sea Pinks, Dandelions, Daisies, Hawthorn blossoms, Red Clovers and Cuckooflowers all have danced their way from bud to bloom.. and the seaweeds continue to do their own wonderous dance within the tides..
We have two foraging dates coming up next week for any of you who may be interested in joining us for an afternoon of foraging & cooking up what we find over the fire..
Thursday May 21st from 1-5pm we are returning to the beautiful @goleenharbour
&
Saturday May 23rd from 2-6pm we return to the sands of Red Strand
Both days are €65 and to book in or if you have any questions private message us or email to [email protected]
We look forward to seeing some of you then!

Some of our immersive forages over the past month…
We had a lovely group at Red Strand beach where we foraged seaweeds & cooked up a salty herbal feast on the fire as the stream babbled its way beside us down to the sea..
Then we had an amazing time running a day forage for @medicinecircleretreats@themedicinecircle at the beautiful @goleenharbour a few weeks ago. It was an incredible day, full of strong sunshine and sea breezes. Tara’s group had so much knowledge and we all shared an amazing day of stories, curiosities, flavors and delicious food cooked over the fire and also by the wonderful @sophiaclair_ …
Our next May time foraging dates are..
Thursday 19th May, 1-5pm at @goleenharbour
&
Saturday 23rd May, 2-6pm at Red Strand beach, Cork
More info to come in the next post about these dates.

Spring tide foraging walk at @goleenharbour led by @the.nature.wave@immersive_foraging 🌊
We spent the afternoon wandering the coastline, learning to read the shore. Seaweeds, wild spring plants, nettle, daisy, gorse
things I walked past my whole life and never knew were edible. 😊
It wasn’t just foraging. It was noticing. The scents, the textures, the sound of the ocean and birds while we sat barefoot on the rocks. People laughing, waves talking back. That touch of wild West Cork spring is an unforgettable memory.
Thank you, @goleenharbour@sophiaclair_ for the experience 💚

Immersive Foraging - Sunday April 19th
@samyelyel and I look forward to gathering with some of you this Sunday the sands of Red Strand beach to share an afternoon of delving into our senses and curiosities for the nature all around..

Finishing with a complimentary sauna by @westcorksauna to celebrate our first forage of the season. It will of course be a herbal infused sauna!

Spring + Summer foraging dates 2026.
Jen @the.nature.wave and I have been concocting a series of workshops. We have various locations and offerings on each date… as the coastline and hedgerows that guide us are- in ever flowing state; these workshops embrace this change and adaptability to suit the people that join us.
We will explore seaweeds in both traditional and reimagined ways, from míobhán butters to charred kelp inks. We will delve into the medicinal apothecary of the hedgerow, chewing on leaves to alleviate a headache or a bee sting. We will walk coastal trails, keeping pathways and conversations open…And make sure to have the craic while we’re at it!
More information to follow but do feel free to contact us if you are interested in joining in one of these dates so that we can tailor the experience to match.
A chairde,
Gathering this Saturday the 11th October for one of our final workshops of the year le chéile before the shorter days and darkening nights bring us fully into the womb of winter months ahead..
We are running another day retreat upon the sands of the beautiful Red Strand where we’ll create the spás to be in our earthen bodies and senses as we explore the herbs of autumn and the seaweeds along the shore.
Amongst this gentle exploration of the landscape surrounding us we’ll share an autumnal warming lunch infused with foraged snacks, finishing the day with a herbal & seaweed infused sauna of @westcorksauna
Spaces are limited so please book ahead and to book in or find out more information please PM or email me on [email protected]
Due to the nature of this event, pre booking & payment is essential by the 9th October as we will be preparing food & herbal remedies in accordance with numbers. If you can’t make it on the day, please feel free to pass your space on to someone else. Thank you for understanding.
We look forward to spending time with you on the sands and by the fire then.

“Nature is thriving through our attention.” 🌿
In this reel, Sam reminds us that presence is a form of reciprocity - that when we slow down and truly notice the land, something subtle but powerful is exchanged.
At Goleen Harbour, Jen and Sam’s foraging immersions are about more than just gathering plants. They’re about tending to our relationship with place, season, and the wild nourishment at our feet.
Join us for two upcoming events:
✧ Forage & Flame — Sunday 10th August
✧ Forage & Craft — Saturday 30th August
Come walk the land, gather with intention, and reconnect to something ancient.

A chairde, friends, les amis…
It feels increasingly strange to share something like a retreat/workshop in the midst of ongoing inhumanity. it also feels more important than ever to be human to eachother, to connect to place, people, more than human life… to replenish ourselves, to become that little bit more sovereign as a people. Foraging has done so much to our happiness, our health and mindset: it is this experience and passion that feels so important to share… a link so ancestral that we all hold it in common.
Myself and @the.nature.wave will be guiding a day long workshop. Begginning with yoga on the beach, breathing in the salted breath; seaweed foraging as the tide drops to reveal the ocean’s abundance in time for a lunch break with foraged snacks; Jen will then lead us on a herbal medicine walk, I will share some foraged inks to use for whatever marks us on the day, all ending with a herbal infused sauna à la Donnie! @westcorksauna
A day to connect- to ourselves, to the ocean, to community… so that we can carry on replenished for the good fight.

A chairde, here we are myself and @the.nature.wave Jen are creating this page to share with you the events and creations that have merged and continue to flourish from our collaboration…
Samuel Arnold Keane is ainm dom, my foraging journey began deep in the city centre of Lyon where I grew up with a strip of a yard - a ‘terrain vague’ however was the oasis, a hop over the fence away. Here the scent of buddleia fragranced the polluted air, the shapes of dandelion leaves and ferns drew the imagination to far away places… it was amongst leaves and dumped washing machines that I grew connected to the plant world and the grá for connecting to slices of ‘wilderness’ no matter how small.
When mo chlann moved back to Eire it was the coastline that captured my being. Could not get enough salt i mo chroí! Seaweeds became a fascination and has inspired much of my artwork.
Our access to the coastline is something I am forever challenging as privatisation of land becomes ever more apparent. Through foraging we build a relationship to place that is at the core to environmental activism. But we also connect to people. There is so much more to be experienced when we share our stories, knowledge, skills, herbs and seaweeds…
With our work, myself and Jen aim to reconnect in a collective and abundant way- inspired by the very workings of the living world around us and indeed within in us - to this ancestral skill…
Dia dhaoibh a chairde!
Hello friends, I’m so happy to be beginning this page with my good friend @samyelyel as it has been years in the making!
And here is a little bit about mise to give you an idea of what I’ll be bringing to our foraging experiences 🌿
Is mise Jen, having always been a sensitive soul since I was a young one, this opened up a pathway for me to see clearly just how much what we feed ourselves, in all of the ways - physically, mentally, emotionally all directly effects how we feel and thus how we move through the world.
I first became really interested in how we move, exploring yoga & dance, this evolved towards organic farming and how we grow food from the soil we live upon, this further evolving into a deep passion for wild food and medicinal plants and thus herbal medicine. I travelled the world only to find that what was growing in the hedgerows and by the salted coast here on our wonderful island country is what enthralled me most of all.
I then trained to become a herbalist in Belfast with Danny O’Rawe and learnt from many other herbalists from all over. I am blessed to come from a lineage of herbal people also, with my father becoming a herbalist later on in his life and then discovering that my great great grandmother on our Donegal side of the family was the local handywoman, meaning she was a herbalist and midwife for her village.
I feel for everyone if we look far back enough in our bloodline there is a grandmother or grandfather who was making potions, throwing nettles into the porridge or holding the cure to a specific ailment.
This looking back recovers the power we all have to listen and look after our health with the food & medicine that’s all around us - by the coast, amongst the trees and in the hedgerows. This in turn helps us to create relationship with the land we live on and protect it.
I look forward to meeting more of you & going on immersive foraging journeys togther!
Slán agus beannacht,
Jen 🌿x
Fáilte isteach gach daoibh!
Welcome everyone to our Immersive Foragjng page where our hope is to share simplicity, beauty & knowledge
This is a space from which we’ll do our best to challenge the current online narrative of overwhelm & over sharing and instead be a space from which you can learn at plant pace and find out about all of our in person events in West Cork and around the rest of our island country 🌿
We have shared some introductions in the following posts about our work & passions individually.
And le chéile we are Jen & Soisín! Many years ago we were both running separate events on Whiterock beach in Dublin and this was the beginning of the inspiration to merge our work together. Both of salted hearts and plant spirits, we have loved the past few years of weaving different foraging & wild food workshop experiences in many different beautiful locations.
Both of us have found a home in West Cork and so this is where we run most of our workshops but we occasionally leave these gentle shores for others.
We look forward to meeting some of you soon at our upcoming workshops & in the meantime you’ll find us amongst the dilisk and the neantóg (nettles).
Grá,
J & S
