A love letter to monumental buildings part 3.
I did my masters (time ago👵🏼) in architecture with specialisation in transforming heritage buildings.
The souls of these places are so remarkable and unique that I felt and still feel the urge to help maintain their stories whilst restoring and adding elements for modern needs in the buildings.
This whilst NOT competing with the already existing design.
How my design and creative processes has changed after discovering ai-image and video making:
1. I use this new creative tool called ai Midjourney to make conclusive imagines from my conceptual ideas, cloudy thoughts, my sketches, my reference and inspiration boards. This helps me to fine tune the direction.
2. Then I translate the concept, references, sketches and the group of ai images into sketch floorplans, sections, little details, elevations.
3. After that I will make a more detailed design transforming all the above into more concrete assets and translating it into 3D models.
4. Then I will finetune the design in 3D (I do prefer to work in 3D whilst designing because I can literally stand IN the design) and add materials, atmosphere, styling and lights into the spaces.
5. From there I will make renders that help me to teel how the spaces are if I would make a picture in the space.
6. After rendering | will put the renders, ai images, references and initial concept next to each other and analyse the whole together. Did I diverge a lot from the initial direction? If yes, why? If not, also why?
I use ai as well as “doodle” or “brain dump”. When I have random ideas that I want to further try out in a fast and visible way, this tool helps the speed and creative process.
I find this tool a very interesting and modern way to explore and create. I’m very happy about this invention and I will continue using it in my career and also almost like a hobby (rendering was also my hobby).
