For her graduation Project Delphine Collet was researching potential use of the biological waste of mussel farming, a key industry in her home region of Brittany. Mytilus is using mussle shells and bissus in an eco-friendly bio-composite material. @delphine_collet #materialdesign #imdmaterialdesign #hfgoffenbach #biobased #ecofriendlyproducts #brittany

LUMORPH - Yixuan Li, Chongge Huang We are pleased to share that the semester project LUMORPH (Lumen + Morph), created by Yixuan Li and Chongge Huang, has been awarded the Gold Award at the 9th HCZ Cup China (Dehua) Ceramic Industrial Design Competition. LUMORPH explores the translucence of biscuit ceramic and the unique, unpredictable textures that emerge through its manufacturing process. Unlike many materials used in light design, biscuit ceramic conveys an ambiguous softness and tactile warmth. Building upon these material qualities, the project integrates haptic interaction, creating an experience that is both visual and sensorial. @gaius_vn @yixuan.design #Materiadesign #ceramicdesign #imdmaterialdesign #hfgoffenbach

We are happy that the Symposium MATERIALDESIGN: designresearch successfully took place on 18 July at Institute for Materialdesign and Advanced Material Studies at HfG Offenbach! Many thanks to all the participants, speakers, student assistants and organisers who made this event happen, for the inspiring talks and discussions! Special thanks to Prof. Dr. Brigitte Franzen, President of HfG Offenbach, for her thoughtful welcome speech, and to Prof. Dr. Valentina Rognoli, head of the Materials for Transition research group at Politecnico di Milano, for her inspiring keynote that set the tone for the day! Platz an Elisabeth Andrae. Herzlichen Glückwunsch! 👀Tipp: Alle Projektbeiträge können beim Rundgang der HfG Offenbach am 19. & 20. #HiddenHeroes #WandelGestalten #KfWStiftung #HfGOffenbach

MATERIALDESIGN: DESIGNRESEARCH SYMPOSIUM Materialdesign, as an emerging field today, expands the understanding of design, generating new results, outcomes and approaches. How does Materialdesign cross traditional disciplinary lines and generate new knowledge? What skills and capabilities are required and developed? What potential does it hold for the future? By discussing current research in the field of materialdesign, the MATERIALDESIGN symposium will explore the evolving boundaries, capabilities, and perspectives that these research and practices bring to design. Organized by Prof. Dr. Markus Holzbach, Prof. Dr. @tombieling , Dr. Ziyu Zhou, Valentin Brück 📅 18th July, 2025, 9–17 ⚒️ Registration: https://pretix.eu/IMD/Symposium/ ❗️ Further Information /symposium/ 📍 Höchster Porzellanmanufaktur, Palleskestraße 32 65929, Frankfurt am main #hfg_offenbach #design_hfg_offenbach #materialdesign #material #symposium @imdmaterialdesign @designtheorie_hfg_of

As the name suggests, MorphCube draws from the concept of morphosis: transformation through changing form. Student Anna Barthold explores how a simple cube can evolve into static, abstract, or organic shapes. Composed of 75 layered segments connected by a hidden central axis, the cube can be rotated to generate a wide variety of forms, revealing diverse visual and structural effects. #matetialdesign #form #formstudy #experimentaldesign #designproject

Four cubes, each more intricate than the previous one, shows possibilities of light experiences brought by the structure. Student Sven Robin Drescher explores modern ornamentation and architectural influence in his project “Ornament und Fläche”. Made from thermoformed plastic and laser-cut acrylic glass, the work invites us to see the surface as space and ornament as evolution.
