MHS/IMANI 9th grade Summer Transition Program
This summer IMANI, in cooperation with Montclair High School, will offer the following summer prep classes, for rising freshmen:
Algebra Review and Preview: This class is geared towards helping each student prepare for and increase their likelihood of success in whatever Algebra class will be taken in freshman year.
Algebra B Accelerated: This course is designed to strengthen students’ understanding of the Algebra 1 skills that are most necessary for success in geometry. Topics include linear functions, solving quadratics and simplifying radical expressions to name a few of the most important.
English Language Arts: Students will read and analyze scenes from The Odyssey, and research/explore Of Mice and Men, two literary works that will be taught in Freshman year.
Classes will be held Monday through Thursday, June 29 to July 30, 8:30 am to 12:00 pm in the George Inness Annex (Freshman Building).
Program fee is $50.

IMANI SAT Prep
Is your child a Junior in high school? IMANI has a limited number of seats available in its upcoming SAT Prep Class. Classes start April 11th and will run on Saturday mornings in preparation for the June 6th SAT test. A parent/student meet and greet with the instructor will be held in the high school LGI room, Thursday, March 26, at 7 pm.
Fee is $300, which is waived for students who qualify for free/reduced lunch. Scholarships are available.

ANNOUNCEMENT: Dumpling Diplomacy Fundraiser!!!
One box of dumplings is an investment in a student’s future. That’s the idea behind this year’s First Annual Patricio Fundraiser sponsored by social enterprise Dumpling Diplomacy to benefit longtime Montclair nonprofit IMANI.
The two organizations are coming together on Saturday, March 14 to raise money for programs aimed at closing the longstanding achievement/ opportunity gap in Montclair. The afternoon event, which will be held at The Mark from 3-5 pm, is a chance for the community to purchase delicious dumplings, mingle with their neighbors, and support a good cause.
Four different types of dumplings will be available for pre-order:
IMANI Signature Spicy Jerk Chicken
Chicken & Corn
Fussy Vegan (vegetarian)
Ricotta, Parmesan & Spinach
Dumplings will only be available for pre-order, but patrons can choose to pick them up or dine on site and strike up a conversation with new friends. Tables will be set up inside the church, and refreshments will be available for purchase.
“We invite the public to join us by purchasing handmade dumplings and donating generously,” says Nancy Loo, the founder of Dumpling Diplomacy and a Montclair resident.
Loo approached IMANI members about hosting the fundraiser after hearing that the Montclair Public Schools was discontinuing its financial support to the organization for the 2025-2026 school year. The loss of funding came amid a host of staffing and program cuts in response to a crippling $20 million budget deficit. The goal is to raise $10,000 to help expand some of IMANI’s programs.

Study groups for tomorrow, Sunday, February 22nd are cancelled due to the projected snow forecast. They will resume next Sunday, March 1st.

IMANI Study Groups are back!
Brush up on your academic skills, get extra support in your classes, prepare for exams during our weekly Study Group sessions run by Montclair High School teachers. Subjects in the areas of math, English and science will be offered for high school students at all levels.
A parent information session will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 4 from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm at 11 Pine Street (enter through front door).
Study Group sessions will kick off on Sunday Feb. 15. Sessions meet weekly from 2 pm to 4 pm at the Montclair Public Library. Fee for the program is $50 per student.

IMANI proudly announces the appointment of Evelyn Gay as Interim Program Coordinator.
Evelyn steps into the role during a leadership transition, providing continuity while actively strengthening IMANI’s programs as the organization searches for a permanent Executive Director to replace JoAnn McCullough.
She has been involved with the organization since its inception and was one of the original members of the Board of Trustees, working closely with students, families, volunteers, and program leaders. Gay will oversee day-to-day program operations at the College Advocacy Center, support staff and volunteers, and focus on strengthening program delivery to ensure students continue to receive consistent, high-quality academic and enrichment support.
Evelyn brings extensive professional experience in business systems analysis, project management, and operational execution. She has held senior roles at Prudential Financial and SONY Music, Inc. and holds an MBA and an PMP certification, bringing a disciplined, results-driven approach to nonprofit leadership and program management.
“Evelyn’s deep institutional knowledge, professional expertise, and long-standing commitment to IMANI make her uniquely qualified to lead during this transition,” said Terry Trigg-Scales, Chair of the Board of Trustees.
