“Nella colonia penale” riceve la menzione speciale al Festival Image Ouverte di Parigi!
La giuria della sezione “Société Ouverte”, composta da Léandre Bernard-Brunel (artista e cineasta), Dieter Deswarte (artista e cineasta) e Mopsa Wolff (montatrice e artista tessile) hanno assegnato la menzione con le seguenti motivazioni:
“We were deeply impressed by the film’s formal rigour and the strength of its cinematography. The use of long, durational shots demonstrates a remarkable confidence in form, allowing the viewer time and space to fully inhabit each moment. This is complemented by an exceptional use of sound, which builds an evocative atmosphere and draws us into the environments the film so carefully constructs.
Through this immersive approach, the film invites to reflect on the notion confinement and the way we both treat people and animals . In doing so, it opens up broader questions around freedom. The work also gestures towards the lingering presence of colonial histories, prompting us to consider how such spaces continue to resonate and function in the present.
We were particularly impressed by the cohesion achieved by its four directors. Their collaboration results in a unified and powerful work that resonates long after viewing.”

D is for Distance (Christopher Petit/Emma Matthews) is screening today at Festival Image Ouverte in Paris at Cinéma L’Archipel at 17:30. A selection of paintings by Louis Petit seen in the film is on show at Fontaine Culture. The screening is followed by a Q&A with the directors and Louis Petit.
