We’re incredibly proud to celebrate Soraya Giaccardi Vargas -@sorayagiaccardi , one of Imagen's board members and the brilliant mind behind the newly released report Between Stereotypes and Specificity: Latino Representation in Popular Television. Soraya’s research pulls back the curtain on how Latino characters are too often flattened into stereotypes — and powerfully shows what’s possible when Latino creators are trusted to tell their own stories. The data is clear: authentic representation isn’t just meaningful, it’s transformative. 📣 New research from the USC Norman Lear Center analyzed Latino characters across top U.S. broadcast series, with a deep dive into Latino-led and Latino-created shows. 🔍 Key findings: • Latino characters are frequently portrayed in race-agnostic roles with little cultural specificity and a disproportionate association with criminality • Latino-led — especially Latino-created — series deliver richer, more authentic storytelling and stronger audience connection This work underscores why organizations like the Imagen Foundation are essential — uplifting Latino voices, creators, and leaders who are reshaping the entertainment industry from the inside out. 👏 Thank you, Soraya, for your visionary leadership and commitment to authentic Latino storytelling. 🔗 Read the report through the link in our bio! learcenter.org/latinorepresentation 💛 Support Imagen’s mission at imagen.org/donate #latinos #latinorepresentation #report #NormanLearCenter #usc #uscannenbergschoolforcommunicationandjournalism
