We visited the Kirikiri Medium Correctional Facility with our partners @abeasotie@buildthenextafrica ,volunteers, lawyers, and welfare support teams to listen, engage, and understand the real needs within the correctional system.
We interviewed inmates awaiting trial, while also speaking with those preparing for release and reintegration into society.
What we saw went beyond prison walls.
We saw people hoping for a second chance.
Many of those preparing for release will need:
• Jobs and skill acquisition
• General medical check-ups and healthcare support upon release
• Counseling and psychological support
• Mentorship and discipleship
• Accommodation and transportation support
• Family reunification
• A healthy community willing to help them rebuild
This is the real work ahead, rehabilitation and reintegration.
Between now and September, 2026 several inmates will be released, and we are believing for partnerships that will help them transition into meaningful lives with dignity and hope.
If you are a lawyer, medical practitioner, counselor, employer, religious organization, sponsor, rehabilitation home, or simply someone willing to help, we would deeply appreciate your support.
Rehabilitation works best when society participates in it.
