In recent days, I’ve accompanied volunteers in Ukrainian territories that have been occupied by Russia and then liberated by Ukraine, but where fighting still rages all around. These are kilometers of sheer destruction—houses, buildings, roads, bridges… It’s not on the same level of devastation as Gaza or Mariupol, but it’s still a kind of hell that we, as Europeans, can barely begin to imagine without seeing it with our own eyes—and that’s not even considering what it’s like to actually live there. Many residents have been killed, others have fled, some have stayed, and others have returned simply because they have nowhere else to go. So they live there, under constant threat, with the sound of artillery coming from every direction.
The Russian dictator has repeated his intention to seize these territories, and the Russian army has gathered massive reinforcements at the border for a new offensive. In response, it’s Ukrainian soldiers who are holding the line, supported by civilians who supply them from their own limited resources, even though the average income in Ukraine is €150 and many people have lost their jobs. Needless to say, any support we can provide makes a huge difference.
You can make a donation to the volunteers I accompanied via the PayPal address below—I can personally vouch that your donations will be used directly to meet urgent, life-saving needs.
I’m not asking you to choose between Ukraine and Palestine. I personally deeply believe that we should be supporting both and fight colonialism everywhere it happens. I speak here about Ukraine because it is where I am now.
Thank you
