who knew the secret to networking was doing it cafe style? ☕️🤎
A day trip to D.C. capped off with @culturecon Café was exactly the recharge I needed. Staying true to my resolution at the top of the year, to become a regular in new rooms. An unofficial café concessioner myself, consider my radius expanded and my cup full.✨
The best place to work from on #MetMonday was the @voguemagazine cafe ofc 💙✨
From the Cerulean Blue matcha & bouquet of flowers, to the photo booth and complimentary postcards, the beautiful interior of @altroparadiso blended with the buzzing energy of fashion-lovers set a tone of ease to what can be such a crazy day in the city.
While I worked, I had a chance to observe the life drawing class hosted in the space by @gethappymedium . Leaving me even more inspired about the intersection of art, the body, and fashion, than when I arrived. (there’s something so refreshing about noticing what’s happening around you in real time)
Fashion is art, and art can also be fashion.
For my look this year I was inspired by the origin of great designs, a great sketch. With the @minttobeclt theme being the feminine body as costume art, I wanted to be intentional with what I sketched. So I reimagined a 1986 Patrick Kelly dress. When I think of someone who truly championed the feminine body, Mr. Kelly is at the top of my list.
A Black man from the south, not only did he make the button whimsy 40 years ahead of his time, he also used them as a vehicle to reclaim blackface and subvert its power. All while crafting sketches that were incredibly moving far before they went into production.
An artist if there ever was one, I hope that my admiration for his work acts as a bond to keep his legacy alive on such a magnificent day of the year, especially as the eyes on fashion and fine art transform.🖤

Happy #metgala Monday to all that celebrate, but especially to @perrinedeshield for leading the charge that is localizing the met gala and truly championing the greatness that exists beyond the big cities.✨

A special thank you to @blackgirlsinartspaces for connecting the dots and leaving space for Black girls like me to get lost in the art and find new meaning in my own voice.
In this season I am fading away from timidity and embracing all that comes with thinking bigger & grander. (after all i am in new york city) wbu?
POV: The sweet life I was promised consists of colorful drinks, hotel bed work seshs & backseat joy rides through the valley (& I enjoyed every moment of it)
