On January 8th, we walked my Papi, Sergio Lub, home ᯓ★
We had time to prepare: Papi received a ‘terminal’ diagnosis in 2003 (I was 17; now 37). Our odds were slim—less than 8%—for him to make it to my highschool graduation. There’s still something very uprooting about it all. Perhaps stemming from so much of my daily purpose being dedicated to nurturing his health. Since 2012, I've lived next door to my parents, offering support & companionship as we navigate the ongoing chapter of Papi’s healing, & each day has been a blessing.
His achievements, especially amid physical limitations, amaze me. He was an inventor, designer & explorer, driven by a profound love of knowledge, our planet & all of humanity, leading him to 100+ countries & learn 7 languages. A beacon of love, unity, & resilience, his unwavering commitment to artistry, networking, & activism defined his life.
He was magnetic. Papi embodied the true essence of an actualized human. A political refugee who fled the Junta of Argentina’s Dirty War, his courageous journey echoed the recurring thread of his parents' emigration from the USSR. Born innately curious, he & my mother not only showed us the world but also brought it to us. Growing up, it was not unusual for our home to receive artists, shamans, lamas, astronauts, activists in various domains, prime ministers, Nobel Laureates, inventors, etc.
Since his passing, I’ve been reviewing his journals, unveiling the vastness of his rich life. In honor of his values & life’s work, I’ve established an online tribute; LifeOfSergio.com, to which my family & I invite all who were touched by his presence to contribute to his memory. It’s also where the pivotal moments of his personal history reside, in his own words. In addition, the site is evolving into a space for his archives, (a sort of landing pad, as the pieces surface in the coming days, months, & years).
ᯓ★ In his twilight, Papi expressed deep gratitude for loved ones, emphasizing the immeasurable value of relationships & the true source of happiness stemming from mutually supporting one another. His legacy echoes with love, unity & an extraordinary life well lived.
¡Ciao Papi!
