Say his name - Hamid Mahdavi Another moment of courage. A firefighter in Mashhad who stepped forward when others were falling. “What Was Dealt to Minab” The tragedy of Minab School runs much deeper than what we’ve been told. The Shajareh Tayyebeh School in Minab was part of the IRGC Naval Base (Nedsa) until 2013. Even after a separating wall was built and the buildings were painted with bright school colors, military equipment remained directly behind the walls and around the schoolyard. The Islamic Republic used these children as human shields. They placed them inside a military base so that if war broke out, their lives could be sacrificed for the regime’s propaganda and survival. In the video above, Moein Najafi, from the family of one of the killed children, explains what really happened. This tragedy was the result of a deliberate and systematic policy that sacrificed the lives of the most innocent. We will neither forgive nor forget this crime. Burning Inside On the state of us Iranians living outside Iran… In the morning you go grocery shopping, you go to work, you smile at strangers and say “I’m fine,” but your entire night is drowned in the news, searching for who was arrested, who was tortured, who was executed, and who somehow survived. You watch a regime that has cut off the internet for 69 days, adds more names to the lists of prisoners and the gallows every day, has set the economy on fire, and even after the horrific tragedy of January 8–9, with 40,000 killed, every day you see new faces of the victims and realize all over again how many people have been lost. You fall asleep carrying a heavy burden of grief, anxiety, and guilt, while everyone around you laughs, makes plans, and continues their normal lives as if nothing has happened. The Demon of the Judiciary Gholamhossein Mohseni-Eje’i, Head of Iran’s Judiciary, recently attacked critics of the death penalty, stating: “Who are you to say we shouldn’t execute? You have no right.” He described opponents as “despicable and worthless,” “vile and treacherous,” and “foot soldiers of the invading enemy,” while urging judges to accelerate the issuance and implementation of death sentences. Stolen Paradise Since the 1980s, numerous testimonies and reports have emerged from prisons in the Islamic Republic of Iran, describing forms of violence that went beyond execution. [1] These accounts state that young women who were virgins were forced into temporary marriages (“sigheh”) before their execution, under the justification that a virgin would go straight to heaven. They were raped, and then executed. [2] In some cases, families later received their daughters’ bodies along with a small “marriage payment” or a document, a cold record of what had been done to them before death. [3] Other testimonies and human rights reports have also described sexual violence against imprisoned women as a tool of humiliation and control, acts that were justified with terms such as “permissible” or “war spoils.” [4] These acts were carried out in the name of the Islamic Republic and within the framework of its system, and similar patterns have continued to appear in reports in recent years.
