My brother invited me to attend Living Codes: African Heritage in the Age of AI few weeks ago - Olufemi Oguntamu @upanddownfellow - Curator Living Codes. Living Codes: African Heritage in the Age of Al explores the powerful intersection of African culture and artificial intelligence. Culture is the primary subject here, while Al serves as a collaborative medium to translate indigenous narratives and ancestral aesthetics into modern forms. A new generation of creatives are actively embedding their heritage into technology, refusing to be archived into silence. Opening in Lagos, the exhibition coincides with a defining moment for Africa’s creative industry, valued at £2.4 billion in 2024 and projected to grow fivefold by 2030. Living Codes acts as both an economic contribution and a vital challenge to this culturally irreplaceable sector. It firmly insists that mere visibility is no longer adequate. Instead, true ownership, authorship, and authentic representation must dictate the future of African creativity in the digital age. Organised by @handleitafrica in partnership with @ngbritish and @undpnigeria , this exhibition launches a broader travelling programme. Lagos, recognized as one of the world’s great creative capitals, is the perfect starting point for this mission to fuse heritage with technological advancement.
