Our Removal Defense Unit provides attorneys at 16 ILJ sites nationwide with the resources, training, and expert guidance they need to keep their immigrant clients, like Jayson, out of ICE detention and to instead remain safely, securely, and lawfully in the United States.
Your gift today can help ILJ attorneys defend immigrants facing unjust detention and deportation: /
More than a year ago, our government granted Jayson parole—permission to live and work in the United States—while his asylum case moved slowly through the courts. Since that time, Jayson had never missed a check-in, had followed every rule, and had become a valued member of the community.
Jayson placed his full trust in the United States. And yet he was arrested and handcuffed when he showed up for a routine ICE check-in. He spent three months in ICE detention before his attorney at @thelegalclinichawaii —our ILJ site in Honolulu —was able to obtain his release.
Jayson is free—for now—while he and his legal team continue his fight for asylum and justice. You can help him—and the hundreds of immigrant clients like him across our network—by donating today.

On #InternationalWorkersDay—and every day—we honor the power of working people and share their dream of a future where every human being is valued and protected.
And we join our immigrant friends, families, and clients in the fight against exploitation, wage theft, debt bondage, and dangerous working conditions.

“Students should not have to choose between education and safety,” said one of the students during our virtual Lobby Day meeting held yesterday with Rep. Kweisi Mfume’s staff from Maryland’s 7th District. We urged the Representative to endorse the Melt ICE Act and the Ban Warehouse Detention Act to stop the pain, fear, and harm that ICE and CBP are causing.
We are proudly mobilizing our network to meet with their legislators and demand that ICE and Border Patrol be removed from their communities.

For thousands of immigrant families across the United States, 2025 marked the beginning of a profoundly difficult and perilous time. But our network was built for precisely this moment—and we met it with determination, strength, and a tenacious commitment to the communities we serve.
Thank you for your continued encouragement and support!

Since January 20, 2025, the Trump administration has moved aggressively to destroy the U.S. asylum system. By declaring an “invasion” at the southern border, shutting down the CBP One app, targeting already-approved refugees for deportation, and canceling thousands of long-awaited asylum appointments, the administration has systematically closed pathways to safety.
These are deliberate mechanisms designed to deter and exclude people seeking protection.
The right to seek asylum is a humanitarian protection recognized by the United Nations to safeguard refugees who cannot remain in their home countries due to persecution. Instead, many are forced to wait in third countries where their lives remain in danger and where they have little to no protection.
We invite you to stand with those whose lives are being directly impacted. In addition to migrants’ stories, partner organizations fighting for migrants’ rights will share two major lawsuits that the U.S. Supreme Court is currently reviewing, which challenge metering and the closure of the southern border.
Come, listen, and learn. Together, we can resist the closure of the border to those seeking safety.

We are grateful to the founders of #FightICEwithDICE for including ILJ Network as a recipient of their charity auction! Sincere thanks also to the 70+ fantastic creators, everyone who donated, and to the #TTRPG and #LARP community.
Your generosity particularly resonates with us because our Co-Executive Director is—surprise!— a longtime larper!
Thank you for your belief in our work and your support of #immigrantjustice.

Last week, we were part of the interfaith #FaithfulResistance on Capitol Hill, which brought together 2,000 clergy, laity, and activists from across the United States to meet with their elected members of Congress and voice their concerns and demands for #ImmigrantJustice.

A few minutes ago, we learned that Kristi Noem has been ousted as #DHS Secretary. Apparently, her recent grilling by Senate Republicans convinced President Trump that she had become a liability and needed to go.
You can be sure these senators have been hearing more and more from their unhappy, angry voters over the last several months.
We are not alone. There are millions of everyday citizens and people of faith and conscience who know that what is happening in this country is wrong. Please never think we have no power as constituents. And please never give up writing, calling, and telling your lawmakers how you feel as their constituent.
This is our right. Let's use it.
