👀 We’ve been working on something exciting…
Recently, we filmed in Nairobi with Dr Susan Chomba from the @worldresources (WRI) — who also serves on the expert panel of our partner IPES-Food — for our upcoming #IKEAFoundationWeek.
It’s a story we can’t wait to share with you.
Supporting partners closest to climate-affected communities is central to our new strategy. With Susan, we saw this in action while exploring this year’s IKEA Foundation Week focus: food systems change.
She showed us how rethinking food systems, from production to plate and beyond, can help build a more sustainable future, and the solutions that already exist to reduce food waste and lower emissions.
We’re so grateful to Susan for sharing her knowledge and passion as an environmentalist, and to our fantastic production team in Nairobi for bringing this story to life.
And finally, a huge thank you to the wider WRI team for your partnership and support throughout.
📅 More to come, Autumn 2026.
What does it really take to make climate progress happen? 🌎
Paul King, CEO of our partner @builtbynature_org , shares a perspective from years of working with policymakers.
It’s easy to feel cynical. But behind the scenes, many are trying to balance complex and competing priorities. Progress often comes from making solutions easier to adopt — practical, affordable, and aligned with what people need. That’s where real change can start.

India is where the IKEA Foundation’s journey began. A few weeks ago, we returned with 51 ambassadors from 12 countries to see that work in action. 🌏
In Pune, the week was spent learning directly from communities and partners driving climate solutions. From agriculture and food systems to renewable energy and mobility, the focus was on solutions that work - and what it takes to scale them.
We saw how innovations like solar dryers and biogas are helping farmers reduce losses, increase incomes, and build more resilient livelihoods. Practical solutions that benefit both people and the planet.
At the IKEA Foundation, we fight global warming with and for the many people. Together with partners including @agroecology_fund , Assemble, @CEEWindia , Sustain Plus, and @WorldResources , these experiences brought our strategy to life.
The challenges are urgent, but so is the progress. The solutions exist. Now it’s about accelerating them. We’re proud of this new group of ambassadors and excited to see how they carry these stories forward. 💛

In Sub-Sahara Africa, people eat fewer vegetables than anywhere else in the world — why? 🥬🌍
This is what we call the "vegetable gap" and it reveals a deeper challenge in our food systems. Closing this gap could improve nutrition, create jobs, and support a healthier planet.
Through the Veggies for Planet and People project, the IKEA Foundation is working with the @WorldVegetableCenter , #SNV, and #ODI to help close this gap in Kenya and Ethiopia.

👆Here’s what it’s like to learn about climate solutions firsthand.
Last month, 37 IKEA Foundation ambassadors from 10 countries came together in Indonesia to meet leaders working on the country’s net zero transition and learn straight from the organisations making it happen.
🌏 We held black soldier fly larvae, heard stories about fishing boats now running quietly on electricity, asked key questions about switching to electric vehicles, and took an electric bus to a village where solar panels on the market roof are already saving money and cutting emissions.
One thing is clear: solutions are already out there. They’re led by local communities and ready to grow.
Thank you to our partner @viriyaenb for making these connections possible and introducing us to @iesr.id , @magifarm.id , @newenergynexus , and @wriindonesia . We appreciate your openness, generosity, and leadership.
💬 To everyone who joined us in Indonesia, what moments stood out to you?

Meet Ima and Soma, co-founders of @MagiFarm.id in Indonesia.
After seeing just how much food was going to waste in Bali, they set out to find a better way — one that works with nature, not against it 🪰 Now, their idea is turning food waste into value for businesses, households, and communities across Indonesia.
Swipe to discover how it works and the impact it’s already making ➡️
♻️ With support from partners like @ViriyaENB , Magi Farm is proving that rethinking the system can unlock solutions that benefit people, planet, and business alike.

🍄 “What we do matters.” That’s the lasting message from Daughters of the Forest.
The film follows Eliseete and Julieta, scientists from Indigenous communities, and the women around them, revealing how science weaves together with ancestral wisdom, and inviting us to see nature as a web of connection, mutual respect and care.
It reminds us that climate solutions often grow from local knowledge and lived experience. Recognising and valuing these insights is key to a sustainable, resilient future. By sharing stories like this, we can help shift perspectives and inspire climate action.
Through our partnership with @thedocsociety ’s Climate Story Fund, the IKEA Foundation supports storytelling that brings forward underrepresented perspectives and engages wider audiences in climate action.

Today, we celebrate our founder, Ingvar Kamprad, on what would have been his 100th birthday.
Ingvar’s influence goes far beyond what he built. He inspired curiosity, humility, and a constant drive to improve, always rooted in everyday life.
That thinking continues to guide our work at the IKEA Foundation. Together with our partners, we are working to fight global warming with and for the many people, so everyday life can be better, now and in the future.
As Ingvar said, “Most things still remain to be done. A glorious future!”
There is still much to do. We move forward together.
Happy birthday, Ingvar. 💙

🪴 Take a second — what would the river argue for? What would the soil push back on?
This is exactly what Wageningen University & Research (@uniwageningen ) and its partners are exploring through the IKEA Foundation-funded #REFOOTURE project in Kenya, Uganda, and Ethiopia.
In community workshops, they place a sapling on a chair at the table and invite participants to speak from nature’s perspective. It’s a simple but powerful way to bring nature into decision-making.

💬 We’d love to hear your thoughts: What could we learn if nature had a seat at the table?

“Today was a very personal learning, that will stay with me forever.” 🌍
This is what happens when you see up close the work IKEA Foundation partners do every day.
In Indonesia, IKEA Foundation ambassador Isabel Puig (@is.puig ) and 36 friends from IKEA met some of the people leading the country’s net zero transition.
We saw circular solutions like black soldier fly larvae, near-silent electric fishing boats, and the real challenges of switching to electric vehicles. In one village, solar panels on the market roof are already lowering costs and emissions.
Real solutions. Already working. Ready to scale.
A big thank you to @viriyaenb and the inspiring organisations they introduced us to.

☝️ This is Wambui.
She’s on her way to a party in Nairobi — riding an electric boda boda.
It weaves through traffic.
No gasoline smell on her clothes.
Her driver, Sammy, loves it too. His electric bike runs on renewable energy, needs fewer repairs, and has boosted his take-home pay by 40%.
Cleaner air. Better income. Same ride — just smarter.
Our partner, the ClimateWorks Foundation's Drive Electric Campaign Leapfrogging Partnership, is helping to accelerate this shift by working with the public and private sectors to put road transportation in Africa, Latin America, and Southeast Asia on a zero-emission path.
What if your daily ride helped clean the air? 🌍⚡
