“IKAA G23 helped shine a new light and raise curiosity about my Korean adoptee identity.
Meeting other Korean and transnational adoptees from around the world was both invigorating and overwhelming.
I left the gathering feeling more connected to my roots and a greater sense of pride about my heritage thanks to the incredible and vulnerable presenters and generous friends I made throughout the week.”

Behind every Korea Gathering are passionate volunteers who make it all possible.
From planners to presenters and on the ground support. They give their time, energy, and voices to create something bigger than any one organization.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to the 2023 Korea Gathering.
This work reflects the overall adoptee community where individuals and groups come together to support, uplift, and inspire one another.

“As a first-time attendee to the Gathering and a first-time visit back to Korea, I am more than glad that I decided to attend IKAA G23! This trip ended up meaning so much more to me than I initially expected.
I left Korea with new friends and knowing that there is a community out there that I belong to.
This conference has helped me want to find out more about what it means to be a Korean adoptee.
Most of all, it has left me wanting to come back to experience it more!”

At the 2023 Korea Gathering, adoptees across a 50-year age span came together, fostering unique connections between generations.
For the IKAA 2026 Korea Gathering, we also plan to expand programming led by descendants of Korean adoptees (DoKADs), many of whom are now adults themselves.

During the IKAA 2023 gathering, we showcased adoptee films, using cinema to explore adoptee stories, identity, and shared history.

"It was my first introduction to the global adoptee community, where I was able to meet and bond with people who share my origin story of displacement and disconnect from my first family and first culture.
IKAA opened my world up to a community I felt I immediately belonged to - where I was able to meet people who were able to understand growing up outside of Korea.
The week-long event included sessions, talks and spaces to be able to learn and share our unique experiences as adoptees. IKAA provided me with ideas and resources to empower my birth search.
It gave me tools to explore and reflect on my life as an adoptee and new language to be able to start owning and sharing my unique story.
On a macro scale - IKAA introduced me to the history, challenges and current state of affairs with intercountry adoptions that I was unaware of before attending."

The Asian adoptees of Canada @asianadopteesofcanada 2025 Annual Bonfire Picnic brought together both new and familiar faces for an evening of connection and community.
This time the raffle featured prizes celebrating both Asian heritage and Canadian culture. It was a pleasure to welcome all in the community, including partners, parents, and pets!

In 2023, almost 60% of attendees were first timers to the IKAA Korea Gathering.
We plan to incorporate more for new comers at this year's Gathering to help people connect and facilitate their journey as an individual and in community.
What are you most excited about if you plan to attend G26?
