two/thirds of the 125,000 people displaced were u.s. citizens.
among those citizens were my family.

i have been absent from my own life this past year. i have taken to hiding and distracting myself from my own mind and the world at large. as i was going through my photos, i didn’t see the highs and lows that i usually do. i saw a girl merely existing. it would be wonderful to make a grand statement that this will all change starting NOW! but i don’t make promises that i can’t keep. real change comes in small increments. “i will change” means nothing. all i can do is start somewhere and then look back and acknowledge that change has occurred. i have no words of wisdom to impart and no great plan to follow. but, at the end of every day, i can say to myself “i’m still here”.

so, even though it feels frivolous, it also feels more important than ever. this is my #2025ProofOfLife

whatever, here’s my traditional ‘NYE’ caption:
we all need to ‘be seen’ but we often forget that we must also be able to see ourselves. i spent so much of my time traveling around the world with someone who never saw me. i have hundreds of photos of them experiencing life; there are no photos of me. i was invisible. i didn’t exist.

so, my encouragement to you, if you are unseen: take your own damn photos. triumphs, failures, laughter, tears: take photos. this is YOUR life. PROVE IT. here is my #ProofOfLife2024

this year i saw me struggle more than i have in a very long time. because reasons, because no reasons. i lost a lot of weight, i gained it all back and more, i lost a lot of weight again. i didn’t leave my house very much and, some days i rarely left my room. i ignored the people that love me even though they never gave up on me. some i loved have left me behind, some i knew i’ve come to love. i make no promises but i’ll also never give up.
