“MEN MOUNT”
For my traditional wedding, the first thing I wanted was to have 30 of my closest guys (my Benin name, Idogban, loosely translates to “having 30”) from different phases of my life to escort me as my chiefs. Then, my mum came up with the idea of my chiefs not wearing the traditional white to create something more unique(hence the Green and Burgundy). I’m glad with how it all turned out and not shocked it went viral because a lot went into the planning 😀
There were two things I wanted to achieve from this:
1. I love my Edo culture and, as a culture curator, I have always wanted to find different ways to amplify it and show people how beautiful and amazing it is. Whether it’s from naming @metroman.co pieces with different Edo names or supporting Edo creatives, I strive to highlight our rich heritage. I also wanted more Edo people to appreciate their culture and be proud of it. As they say, “Edo odion and Benin no Dey carry last.”
2. The power of community - “Men Mount.” It truly takes a village to shape a man, and I’m grateful to my brothers and friends for their impact on my life. I’m glad I had them come out in numbers to support me.
