Formula 1 - The Exhibition on film 🎞️
What a treat to get up close to such beautifully curated cars and artefacts of the sport I love most.
It felt right to capture some of my favourites on film.

We’re almost at the end of my analog memoirs of Japan.
In this series we go down the slide film rabbit hole. Using a mix of expired Fuji Velvia 50 & Fuji Provia 100F. It’s always a gamble using expired colour film, let alone slide film 🎞️.
Yes there’s colour shifts, it’s grainy… but it’s all REAL.
I must give special mention to John from @luminalabs.au for the attention to detail with the dev & scan of this work, all frames are untouched…as intended.
We’re almost at the end of my analog memoirs of Japan.
In this series we focus on my use of Kodak Cine Vision 3 500T in Medium Format with the Fuji GW690II. I’m so ridiculously happy with the results given I decided to shoot at night handheld.
Nothing gives the results that this film stock does, and I love it.

Indulge me over the next few weeks as I post my analog memoirs of Japan.
I’m glad I made the decision to shoot as much analog as possible, taking my time and soaking in everything around me.
Japan is special. I don’t think I can say anymore words that will do these frames justice.
Enjoy my memoir.
This specific set was captured on Kodak Vericolor Slide Film SO-279 with my Nikon FM3A and the splendid Zeiss 50mm.

Tokyo Drift.
Yes it’s impossible to cover everything in under 12 hours in a place like Tokyo, however that didn’t stop me from capturing a sense of the beauty and madness of Shinjuku, Harajuku and Shibuya.
Enjoy 😊

Art and Engineering
So here I was looking to start heading back from Shibuya to Shinjuku to catch my train, and decided to walk down a small street as I wanted to avoid the main roads.
I literally stopped in my tracks when the first image you see in this post is what I saw.
Ken Okuyama’s design studio and kode57.
I felt weak at the knees but walked in to speak to the lovely staff inside.
I couldn’t believe this incredible feat of automotive engineering was before me. So I kindly asked
If they would mind if I photographed the car. Absolutely of course was the answer.
For those playing at home, it was a recent edition of my favourite automotive magazine Magneto which featured an interview with Mr Okuyama and his incredible kode61 Birdcage, as well as a late night Tokyo photoshoot which was my sole inspiration for a recent shoot of my own with Steve and Ying’s MX-5s.
Some details about the kode57.
It’s one of five built by Ken Okuyama and team in the Yamagata Factory, the only carrozzeria in Japan.
This model is an homage to 1957, an iconic year when the race scene was flourishing worldwide and many timeless cars were born. The design concept is “57 Ferrari 250 TR envisioned for our modern times”. The aura of a bygone era remains fascinating to this day.
I couldn’t meet Mr Okuyama today, I will return next year and make that happen, it was fate that led me down the road to his studio.
I did however purchase a pair of Ken Okuyama designed sunglasses, how could I not.
It was meant to be.
