membranophonics.
one day i found this drumset in the garbage in my studio building and decided to give it new life - since it’s destruction i’ve been blessed enough to save another from the dumpster and i’m prepared to perform “membranophonics” in it’s entirety, with additional production, at a space similar to @whitneymuseum , @momaps1 , @fridmangallery - which venues would you like to see this piece performed live?* here’s what it’s all about:
a membranophone is an instrument who’s sound is produced by vibrating a membrane stretched over an opening; a drum.
the reading comprehension that “-phonics” implies in this piece is one that examines and exploits angst/anger - the drums are the vehicle by which to communicate these emotions, inevitably being sacrificed to quench the engulfed soul.
membranophonics explores catharsis theory (destruction as a means of emotional release) and cute aggression (simulated ill intent towards precious entity) - surely taking both ideas to extremes. how do you express your anger? the excess cortisol released from chronic, suppressed anger has high potential to wreak havoc on and in your body, what are you going to do to alleviate this pressure within you; safely, efficiently, morally?
you only have one vessel, why allow anger to fester within it?

Brooklyn — this Friday.
25 artists created original theater, spoken word, live music, and dance inspired by Malcolm X and Lorraine Hansberry.
Not revivals.
Not history class.
New work. Live in the room.
Some of these pieces are raw. Some funny. Some musical. Some confrontational. All rooted in the words, ideas, and spirit of Malcolm and Lorraine.
If you’ve been craving art that actually has something to say right now — pull up.
