There are people who pass through our lives, and then there are the rare souls who become stitched into the fabric of our becoming. Chigul is one of those souls for me.
I have known her since our Air Force Primary School days in the vibrant innocence of the 80s, and what is most extraordinary is not simply that we have remained connected through the decades, but that she has remained beautifully, unmistakably herself.
The world knows Chigul as hilarious: a phenomenal creative force with a gift for laughter so natural and disarming that she can light up the darkest room with a single expression, a single story, a single perfectly timed observation. But those of us privileged enough to know her beyond the stage know that her greatest masterpiece is not her talent. It is her heart.
She is deeply empathetic. The kind of friend who listens not just to words, but to silences. The kind who remembers the small things, senses the unspoken things, and shows up long before she is asked. She carries people gently. Lovingly. Intentionally.
Chigul would bend over backwards for the people she loves, often placing others before herself with a tenderness that never feels performative. Her kindness is not loud. It lingers. You see it most clearly in her eyes; warm, knowing eyes that seem to say, “You matter. I see you. I’m here.”
Through every season of life, she has remained a confidante, a safe haven, and a deeply loyal friend. In a world where so many people evolve into versions of themselves that success demands, Chigul has managed to evolve while still protecting the purity of her humanity. That is rare. That is grace.
To know her for this long is one of the quiet honours of my life.
And perhaps that is the greatest thing one can say about a person: after all these years, after all the stages, applause, growth, and change, she is still kind.
Still funny.
Still true.
Still Chigul @theonlychigul . Happy Golden Jubilee!!!

Today, I walked through a solar manufacturing factory in Nigeria and saw something powerful.
Solar panels being produced locally. Exported across Africa.
And women, not just in leadership, but on the factory floor. Under the leadership of Mrs.
Nneka Arowolo, the Group Managing Director, LPV Technologies is building more than renewable energy solutions. It is building capacity.
What struck me most were the female technicians working with focus and precision along the
production lines: calibrating, assembling, testing.
Skilled.
Confident.
Technical.
Brilliant.
This is what Women’s Month looks like in real terms.
Not panels.
Not hashtags.
Production.
When we speak about clean energy and industrial growth, we must also speak about inclusion, because sustainable progress is built by diverse hands.
Nigeria’s future is not waiting.
It is being manufactured, panel by panel, by women and men who believe in building at
home.

Honourable Minister of State for Industry
