I loved hairstyling, but I didn’t want to be known for it🤧 Not because I lacked the skill, but because of how it’s perceived. For a long time, hairstyling has been seen as a “backup plan” in our society. Something you do when other options don’t work out. And because of that, it’s not always given the respect it deserves. But over time, I started to question that narrative. Is the problem really the skill… or how it’s seen and presented? This is where my conflict with hairstyling started, and it’s a conversation more of us need to have. I’ll be sharing more on this. Have you ever felt like something you love isn’t respected enough?

For a long time, I struggled to fully own being a hairstylist, not because I didn’t have the skill, but because of how people perceive it, here in Nigeria. At some point, I stepped back and tried to move into something that felt more “acceptable”, Brand Identity Design. I took courses, practiced, and explored it, because I’ve always had a natural eye for beauty. But over time, I realized something: There’s nothing wrong with the skill. The problem is how it’s perceived, and how we present it. So yes, I’m back. I’m not just here to make hair. I’m here to grow, to show up with professionalism, and to be part of changing how hairstylists are seen. This is me putting myself out there, properly this time😊 Have you ever struggled to fully own what you do because of how it’s perceived?

Sometimes, the opportunity you’re praying for is sitting in a conversation you’re avoiding. A lot of us are skilled, but too hidden. Your network grows when you learn to talk, connect, and intentionally let people know what you do. Happy Weekend Fam✨ #fyp #entrepreneurs #professionalhairstylist✂️ #thoughtleader #networking

A lot of what we’ve normalized in this industry is exactly what’s holding us back. If we’re serious about growth, then we have to start paying attention to the small things we ignore. This is not a call-out, it’s a call-up. #hairstylistsinnigeria #blackhairstylist #hairstylistsofinstagram #explorepage✨ #fyp

I'm learning that good hair can look right and still feel wrong. That’s the difference between doing a service… and delivering an experience. And that’s what really defines value. #africanhairstylists #blackhairstylist #nigerianhairstylists #southafricanhairstylist #ghanianhairstylist

We’ve normalized too many things and started calling it professionalism. Truth is, a lot of what we see daily in this industry is the exact opposite. Professionalism is not vibes, packaging, or just being skilled, it’s structure, integrity, and consistency. It’s time to unlearn some things. Which one stood out to you? 👀

Let’s be honest with ourselves as hairstylists… This is why many of us struggle to grow. Not because we are not talented. But because we lack professionalism. Professionalism is not: Fine pictures on Instagram Big grammar Packaging without structure Professionalism is: Keeping your word Respecting people’s time Communicating clearly Being accountable when things go wrong #HairIndustry #hairstylistsinnigeria #nigerianhairstylists #africanhairstylists #workprofessionals

Skill might get you noticed, but integrity is one of the values that makes clients trust you enough to stay. Professionalism is not just about what you can do, it’s about how you show up, how you handle people, and whether your words match your actions every single time. No integrity, no trust. No trust, no real professionalism. What does integrity look like in your work?
