Well, I wasn’t going to say anything. I was just going to quietly dip out of the corkscrew page, but then I decided to make a new spot for anyone who asked me about it. And then people started using it more! But now I worry that people are going to come check it out, having seen it and then feel like they were kicked out so I have to say something now because that is not the case. I was just tired of putting in the work to keep it alive but only a handful of the 2000 + !followers were actively adding to the page and there wasn’t the kind of the dialogue I had hoped for when this was a small group in a chat. I’m praying this next go round will be better (what I say before every spin)

Keep on moving don’t stop. I have no idea exactly how many sit spins I have attempted over the course of this year, but I’ve done them nearly every day since January 1st and this is probably the best one I’ve hit. @quadzillalk got me thinking about opening the arms wide. So I’ve been playing with that a lot, and I really like how it squares up the shoulders. using them to also engage the sit spin And pull them back helped me open the shoulders and send the chest forward at the bottom of the spin. In fact, I am realizing more and more how important it is to open the shoulders. I love it when some thing you have been hearing forever finally clicks into your body.. why is it sometimes so hard to put into action what we already know?
also, this @taypowers mix is 🤌🤌

✨sit spin training ✨
Since I started working on these, I have been getting lots of great advice from other skaters. That’s one of the best things about recording process. It allows you to analyze your own footage and to compare it to films of other skaters that you are trying to emulate and other skaters can also spot issues that you might be having. I am so grateful to the ones that give constructive feedback and support. @quadzillalk has been especially helpful and will send me notes and videos demonstrating technique. I applied some recent feedback in today’s session and it felt really good.
These are the notes given that I focused on.
✨relax the shoulders and imagine I’m holding a pen between my shoulder blades (the pen tip is from. @jtdw2488 )
✨let the knees and feet point outward, something that feels natural and don’t fight so hard to control them
✨I need to be on the balls of my feet, weight in outside edges, rolling from inside to outside as i sit.
✨slow and controlled will only teach me so much, I need to feel it with momentum. Less time to overthink it.
✨flow with the movement instead of straight drilling
✨lastly, doing the squats on front wheels before I start to drill the spins has been a game changer. If I skip that step, they are just a hot mess!
I hope that these tips are helpful to my friends who are also working on these.
We are going dooowwwnn!! Let’s do this 💪💪

Good morning! I’ve been working out this figure 8 drill for both sides of the sit spin. Still focusing on keeping the upper body forward by hinging at the hip and this step over feels like a good way to project forward. The pattern is one half of the figure 8 with the step over and then begin the spin when switching to the other side and changing direction, then switch back to the original side and do the step over twice before entering the spin on your opposite side. That’s also something new for me. When I’ve done the step over before I would continue spinning the same direction but this switch feels like I get better momentum. I brought this up with a friend and she said that was how she learned spins. I realize that so much of my learning process has been fucking around and finding out and gathering tips from so many people and then just experimenting with it. So if you try this, let me know how it feels to you and add to the research we are gathering in the @sitspinworkshop by posting your practice.

This move looks a lot more simple than it really is. I learned it from Spider. For friends who know him, is he on IG ? I never asked. I skated with him for the first time at the event at. HJK a few weeks ago and we did this kind of a scissor move. I don’t know what to call it, that just what it feels like. The whole idea is to use your hips and a rock in the upper body to move the skates and not your feet. It’s very much like how the slow walk feels in the hips but this switch bounce feels great and I love how I can feel my skates slide right past eachother very close underneath me. I also played with changing levels with it. @happy.happy.joi.joi has been working on sit spins with me and ive been telling her to bring her upper body forward, which is guidance that I’ve gotten from the OGs that I have skated with but I feel like the common posture advice I see on IG is to be more upright with shoulders back, which is fine if you only have a slight bend in the knees, but I have found that the deeper the bend, the more you have to send your head forward and push your butt back.,like you are sitting into a chair and there is this middle part where you are holding that hip hinge before the sit and that is where we are building the strength and control. I don’t know if this is the correct sit spin progression, but we are in the lab and figuring it out together and that is what I love most about collaboration.
If you make it to the end (I realize how boring it probably is ). You’ll see how you can move from that lowest level where the thighs are parallel with the floor into the toe manual squat. It’s a great work out and feels amazing too. Hope y’all enjoy it!

About 3.5 years of spin practice in 1.5 minutes. I had a couple of spins in my stories that I wanted to save in the highlights and wondered what it would look like to string together a progress video. It’s also interesting to see how I’ve changed and evolved along the way. It’s a strange time to be in my body. I had a hysterectomy almost 4 years ago and it was during the recovery that I threw myself into skating and really locked in. I remember having just started following @inspiredbyfavor and I prayed in that hospital recovery room for the same strength and energy, fluidity and flow that I saw in her skating. Being able to reconnect with my body has been such a gift. Things are changing yet again and I’m experiencing a lot of weirdness as I approach menopause. Part of me thinks I may have entered it already because the effects have been so extreme, but without a uterus it’s hard to know for sure. Wow, that’s a lot of personal information I wasn’t expecting to share but I know it’s also something that all women go through, so talking openly about it is important. I’m so grateful to have this skate practice to support my health and wellbeing during this transition and I accept this aging process and how my skating might also change with it. I’m in this for the long haul and I’m looking forward to growing old together.

Focusing on staying cool and relaxed at the bottom of the spin. This is often where I tense up and try to “hold” the spin, but I wanted to try to just drop into a comfortable place and let it hold me. Feeling the connection of the calves and hamstrings and placing my hand on the knees to stay centered. I’m also liking this entrance to the spin, and it would be fun to do in motion at the rink. I think this is the lowest I’ve been able to sit and it got me thinking about sit spin progressions. It’s taken a long time to feel comfortable dropping to this level, but it’s also easier and more comfortable now that I’ve worked through the fear. Comfort is the reward for letting yourself be uncomfortable.

Non dominant side starting to come through! I’ve been able to get my back foot to roll forward when I go to the right, but the left side still wants to roll backward. I can see glimmers here and it’s feeling much better. Staying focused on the roll of the wheels has been helping me a lot to feel connected. What do you think about when you spin? I’m so curious about everyone’s thought process.
