Being a kid again | Real time: 2 hours Sometimes I don't feel like drawing because I don't know what to draw. While that might sound reasonable to us as adults, I wonder what 4 year old me would've said. Perhaps as we age, as we become accustomed to knowing things, we forget what it's like to not have certainty and answers. To not know and be surprised by new ideas. The first 20 minutes of this drawing felt ...horrible. I wanted to give up. What was I doing trying to draw something so different from my usual style? I didn't have an end picture in mind. It was scary. It was hard to begin, hard to make choices. ---- I watched an online drawing demo recently by one of my favourite artists (Pascal Campion) and he talked about indecision often is a product of ascribing too much significance to a decision. Fixation on doing something "the right way." Forgetting what it's like to just play. To improvise as we go along. Pascal mentioned that he prefers to work quickly -- before one gets fatigued and leaves the drawing to rot in its unfinished til an unspecified date. I think there's some value in that. Perhaps we don't always have the luxury of time to sit and refine things...in which case it would be better to get the idea out rather than let it slip away. So I started working on it. Really quickly. With a digital brush I rarely ever use. ---- Another thought: does it really matter? So what if you realise you don't like the colour you chose at first? Adapt. Make the other colors work with it. Or if you have the liberty to, change it. So what if you only have basic tools? Learn how it works and embrace its uniqueness. It's really not that dramatically awful -- it's not the end of the world. And somehow along the way I found myself enjoying the explorative process. :) -- Lastly, perfection. At some point, we've got to stop. The drawing could've been considered completed at the sketch phase -- simply because the idea was readable. Although there's satisfaction in perfecting things, it must be done in moderation. Once we've achieved our goal to a reasonable level, there's no need to keep obsessing over every small detail. x the end x #drawing #beakidagain

Practice Sketch Haven't sketched in a while! Tried doing contour drawings for about 20 minutes but didn't manage to do a nice one. When I finally got down to sketching it, I realised that the lines flowed better! πŸ“Έ: reference from @chommang 's drawing routine channel. πŸ‘€ pre-sketch practice (2) and time lapsed process video (3) ⏰ (final sketch): 9 minutes 7 seconds #drawingroutine #drawing #sketch #ipaddrawing #procreatesketch #pinterestreference #timelapse #practicepracticepractice #2024 #pencilsketch

Remarkably Bright Creatures was a book that hit me in some way I haven't found the words to describe just yet. The characters sneak into the crevices of your heart and settle in the living room with a bowl of popcorn and a warm cup of tea. When the book ended, I briefly entered a moment of denial which tumbled out of the dryer in the form of 8 Google searches on Giant Pacific Octopuses and a drawing of said octopus.
