The region gets a lot of sunshine – more specifically roughly 300 sunny days per year. This is allows viticulture to not only survive, but to thrive despite long winters. In peak growing season vineyards receive sunshine from 5am to nearly 9pm. This combined with hot summer temperatures allows a variety of grapes to grow for wines that stand out on a global scale.

Vines don't reach their optimal state in the summer without the work that's done in the winter. Vines undergo intense pruning during the winter months, meaning, last year's canes are removed to protect the structure of the vine. Removing old canes is vital since fruit grows strictly from one year old canes and it allows for vines to grow in a way that is conducive to harvesting. This simple task must be done correctly for next year's harvest to yield the best results.
