☀️ Could not have asked for a better day! Yesterday, friends and family joined us at Elm Street Books for the first local author signing of Icky Ice Cream. We ended up selling out all copies! Stickers were stuck and bookmarks were tucked, and smiles were had all around.
👀 We even had a special guest… Mr. McAteer himself! For those who don’t know, Laura originally wrote the story in his class almost 15 years ago. Icky Ice Cream is dedicated to him, so look for his name in first pages of your copy!

When Laura was much younger, she played a board game called Balderdash. For those unfamiliar, one part of the game is vocabulary bluffing. Fake definitions and real definitions are mixed together, and you have to guess the real one!
🗣️ Okay, okay I get it… so what does this have to do with an albino cockroach?
Well you see, one of the game words was a “kakkerlak”, which by definition is… you guessed it… an albino cockroach.
She never forgot this word, and it helped inspire Icky Ice Cream!
