Happy 15th Anniversary to the team at La Mar Peruvian Restaurant. Chefs from La Mar restaurants all over the world were flown in to showcase their best dishes. Quite possibly the foodie event of the year, thank you to the wonderful team @lamarsf and @lopezsabinov for your vision.
How's it made?
Here's a brief look into what it takes to make an ice sculpture. Each 300 lb. block of ice takes three or more days to freeze. It is then harvested and trimmed to size. The design is then laid out and the blocks are stacked to achieve the necessary dimensions. The carving process begins and the blocks take shape. Once details are finished, the entire sculpture is broken apart and insulated for delivery. We then fuse the sculpture back together again on site for our clients.
Custom designed gemstone cut snail ice
sculpture. 🐌 Abstract work can be a delicate balance. Push the design too far then you lose the subject matter, keep it too realistic then you lose creativity. This little guy stole the show that day. Thank you to our amazing clients who always trust our creative process. ❤️
Unfortunately this is all we are allowed to show you. 😅 Please tag @iceillusions if you see our work at the NFL Superbowl events throughout the city.
Which team will win it all?
Before there was AI, there were actual sets that took months of planning and live trained animals to get the perfect shot. Days of carving just to get the ice crown shaped perfectly to sit on her head. Special thanks to the New Yorker, the talented Martin Schoeller, and the amazing Lynn Cox. The article is a wonderful read about Lynn recounting her swim.
The only AI used, below. 😅
Lynne Cox is the American long-distance swimmer who became the first person to swim across the Bering Strait from the USA to the Soviet Union on August 7, 1987. She swam 2.7 miles in 38-44°F water, crossing the "Ice Curtain" between Alaska's Little Diomede and Soviet Big Diomede in just over two hours, helping to improve U.S.-Soviet relations.
Key Details of the Swim:
Context: The swim bridged the "Ice Curtain" between Little Diomede (USA) and Big Diomede (USSR).
The Feat: In 1987, at age 30, Cox completed the swim in 44-degree Fahrenheit water, wearing only a standard swimsuit, cap, and goggles.
Diplomatic Impact: The swim was hailed by Presidents Reagan and Gorbachev as a gesture of peace and international cooperation.
Preparation: It took 11 years of negotiation to get permission for the swim.
Sometimes we forget about our old works that have created the reputation we have today. Thankful to have those that have documented the journey. This one is from 15 years ago. It was a special piece that represented a huge pivotal point in the history of technology as we know today.
