We’re thrilled to announce that the ICAV Project has successfully completed its first autonomous test flight of the year!
On Saturday, nine dedicated members of the SPI team brought our latest test plane to the skies at Wormwood Scrubs. Despite a challenging takeoff, the team achieved several minutes of manual, assisted, and ultimately fully autonomous flight – a significant step forward for the project!
This test flight allowed us to assess our avionics and flight systems while giving team members hands-on experience with the technologies required to sustain our solar-powered plane in the air.

Project Phoenix is on the way!
Our aero team has been working hard selecting airfoil, sweep and taper to ensure flight stability and that lift requirements are met. Many XFLR and CFD simulations were run over 3 iterations on our plane.
Iteration 3 has been finalised and our aero team is now working on control surfaces to finalise the aero design of Project Phoenix.
