Ojaja University: A New Dawn in Ile-Ife
Ojaja University has officially launched its Ile-Ife campus — unveiled during the 10th coronation anniversary of Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi Ojaja II.
The Ooni described the university as a legacy project, not a commercial venture, built to serve generations and preserve cultural identity. Once based in Ilorin (formerly Crown Hill University), the new Ile-Ife campus is now positioned as the cultural and creative hub of the institution.
The campus will host key programmes in Arts, Culture, Media, and Creative Industries — including Mass Communication, Film & Multimedia, PR, Yoruba Studies, Music, and Theatre Arts — merging heritage with innovation.
Pro-Chancellor Prof. Lere Baale called it a “cultural embassy” for African leadership and creativity, while Vice-Chancellor Prof. Jeleel Ojuade described the campus as a place where culture meets technology and creativity meets global relevance.
The event featured dignitaries and traditional rulers, with the Sultan of Sokoto, Alh. Sa’ad Abubakar III, performing the sod-turning and praising the Ooni’s vision for national development.
Ojaja University Ile-Ife stands as a generational investment — built not for profit, but for people. #ojajauniversity #ojajauniversityileife #ooniife #educational
The annual Yemoja festival at Popo Yemoja in Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria, is a vibrant, seventeen-day celebration dedicated to Yemoja, the Òrìsà (goddess) of the river, motherhood, and fertility. This significant cultural event, often led by the Baale Yemoja chief priest to Yemoja, Baba Omikunmi Egbelade, commences with the Ilasu ceremony, which involves the cutting of new yam, marking the start of the festivities. The initial fifteen days are dedicated to the worship of various Òrìsà like Sango, Ifa, Obatala, and Òsun, whose devotees arrive at the Yemoja shrine to pay homage, reflecting the interconnected nature of the traditional Yoruba pantheon. This period is filled with traditional rites and communal gatherings, strengthening cultural ties and preparing the community for the climax.

Long ago, Sango was the third Alaafin of the ancient Oyo Empire. A mighty and fiery king, he wielded a double-headed axe and was known for his military prowess and just rule. His legend, however, transcends the battlefield; it is said he transformed into an Orisha, a divine spirit, ascending to the heavens to become the god of thunder and lightning.
Oba koso! The king has refused to die!
