On the occasion of the third birthday of the store, we’re throwing a party to celebrate the launch of TAIPEI, a new photo book by our friend @ibiibrahim and designed by @yenwei_liu , documenting morning walks through our favorite big city. Join us on Thursday, June 5th from 6-9pm at the store for a very proper Taiwanese summer kick-off. Lion dance at 7pm.
This celebration happens to coincide with Dragon Boat Festival, so expect all the accoutrements of the holiday. In addition to signed copies of TAIPEI (and accompanying postcards), we’ll be providing seasonal food and drink—look forward to youfan, zongzi, tea eggs, grass jelly tea, Taiwan craft beers, a product giveaway, and more. We are so happy to have made it to the three year mark, and are excited to celebrate with you all.

TAIPEI is the second publication from Makan, an artist-run publication house that aims to support the work of immigrant artists and those from countries of conflict and beyond.
Ibrahim’s work, and his perspective as a visitor, bring focus to the texture of everyday life in Taipei, from laundry hung on a pole propped on a ladder to a lone bicycle stored between traffic barriers.

Makan Press is pleased to announce the release of our second publication. TAIPEI; a solo long-form project by Yemeni American artist Ibi Ibrahim.
Roaming through foreign streets in the island’s capital, Ibrahim’s extrinsic eye lingers on corners of mundane quietude. The act of archiving memories away from home is fueled by the photographer’s relationship to his own homeland, Sana’a, where a once familiar taste of freedom can no longer be captured due to ongoing war and conflict.
The book officially launches on Thursday (5/15) as part of Makan’s participation in the LAABF @printedmatter_artbookfairs . Makan participates this year as the LAABF 2025 Shannon Michael Cane Award recipient. Visit Makan’s table at G10

this week at @biennale_sa@frommakan is leading a number of programs this week at the biennale.
friday: open “studio-like” space nestled in the Biennale’s Library. i am bringing work from (time is a paper) series, books and objects that inform my process.
saturday: old stamps, new postcards takes place. the workshop is inspired by the themes of place and displacement, using Yemeni stamps from my own personal collection, participants will craft postcards that bridge art, culture, and representation.
