A HORSE WITH A NAME 2
FROM APRIL 12th to MAY 18th
VERNISSAGE ARIL 25th, 6h30 PM
Ibe Ryde is a visual artist based in Ghent, Belgium, whose work navigates the boundary between the organic and the artificial. Her practice is rooted in painting, yet it often draws inspiration from the aesthetics and logic of artificial intelligence. In her series “Reimagine,” Ryde creates enigmatic portraits that echo the uncanny feel of AI-generated faces—recognizable yet subtly distorted, beautiful yet unsettling. These figures appear to emerge from a dreamlike limbo, suspended between memory and invention.
Her palette is often soft, almost ethereal, but there is a quiet tension beneath the surface. Faces melt into backgrounds; eyes drift out of alignment; identities blur. Her work invites viewers to question the stability of representation and the reliability of perception in an age where human and machine-made images coexist.
Beyond their visual allure, her paintings pose deeper questions about authorship, individuality, and the digital gaze. Are we still painting people, or are we painting data-driven projections of what a person could be? Ibe’s work doesn’t offer answers—it gently disorients, suggesting that truth may lie somewhere in the slippage between reality and simulation.
Every Saturday and Sunday from 2 tot 6 PM.
The gallery will be closed the weekend of APRIL 19th
