The design makes a conscious statement for sustainable timber construction in an urban context. Separate lanes for pedestrians and cyclists provide a comfortable experience, as does the surface heating, which ensures safe paths during the winter months.

Finalist in the National Highways Low-Carbon Bridge Design Competition: a new low-carbon footbridge for the Lower Thames Crossing, combining traditional materials with emerging technological innovations to produce a creative and sensitive design.
Our team, comprising Davis Maguire and Miebach Engineers, utilised emerging technological innovations, particularly in advanced timber construction, weathering steel and pre-stressed stone, and combined this with a creativity and sensitivity toward the landscape, site, materials and the end users. This presented an innovative, long-lasting, and sustainable structure for the future.
Functional, elegant, sustainable
The new timber bridges "Borgsloot" and "Tersluis" in Meerstad combine durability, sustainability, and elegant design. Built with an innovative timber-concrete composite structure, a generous clearance profile (1.5 x 4.0 m), and perfectly integrated into the landscape, they provide safe routes for pedestrians, cyclists, and cars – while allowing boats to pass freely! 🚲🚶♀️⛵
