“Joke For a Light”, the first new single by Daydream Retrievers in four years is out today.
This one happened fairly fast, despite taking a long time to be released.
Jon Gilbert is a friend I’ve known through his years touring with Pete Yorn and wayyyyy too many coffees and trips to NAMM when I’d visit him in California. Since for the last ten years or so I’ve done my own recording, it was a fun thought to try turning the wheel over to someone else and just focus on doing the thing for a day. When a little window opened that I’d have a few free days around LA, it seemed like the time. Most of my drummer friends in the area were on tour, and Jon offered to give Malcolm a call. I pretty thoroughly drilled the records by his band Minibar directly through my skull from 2005-2010 so that was of course a pleasure. Many other life roller coasters ensued between everyone, and this ended up being the first track mixed in Jon’s new studio in Mexico which explains why there’s sand everywhere when you listen to it.
This doesn’t feel like the time to talk about releasing music, so you won’t hear much more out of me about it, but it does feel like the time **to release** music. So here ya go. More soon down the line.
P.S. this is only available on Bandcamp. It will be released on streaming services that are not s*****y or a****n. No current plans to put them on either. Street date Tuesday forever.
