2 many 1s for my liking. 1 goal scored, 1 goal conceded. 1 more lead given away. 1 more opportunity grasped. 1 more opportunity missed. 1 more point scored. 2 points above the relegation zone. 2 matches to play. The game’s afoot. Or, to be more accurate, a foot’s a foot and the game is just a game … or is it?
btw it may please some Spurs fans of my acquaintance that the location of the ONLY FOOLS & HORSES convention that I attended yesterday was the Doubletree Hilton at Milton Keynes, which surrounds the MK Stadium and provided does several function several function rooms in matchdays. You see here a view from the correct for leading to my room.
Readers who do not follow Spurs may be interested to know that this is where the club played while our new stadium was being built on occasions when Wembley Stadium was considered too large or unavailable.
40 YEARS ON. I appeared in a cameo role as Giles in the 1986 ONLY FOOLS AND HORSES Xmas special A ROYAL FLUSH. Who would have thought then that this would lead to my initiation yesterday to the world of conventions … or, as Delboy might have put it, the loss of my conventional virginity? My thanks to Perry and Chris of the OF&H Appreciation Society for inviting me, to mother and daughter Wendy and Amy for supporting me so well and for the many fans who shared with me how important the show has been to them. I hadn’t anticipated how moving so many of their stories would be and thank those who shared a little of their life histories with me. After one day of almost continuous autographs, photos and talk I feel more than a little whacked. My respect and admiration goes to David (Del or Sir David to his friends), who is slightly older than me, appeared for two full, consecutive days and was to my surprise in even demand than myself. (My apologies to David’s many fans that he only features in one photo here, in which he is surrounded by the splendid team who kept the event running smoothly.)
Thanks, Banksy. Not more than a stone’s throw from the location of a key sequence I shot in the BBC’s “Strangers and Brothers”, circa 1984. Was our street-art superhero sending me a personal message? Probably not. (Go see it. It’s great.) #Banksy #street-art #art #London
When you look this cool, you don’t need to go fast, big guy. (see thumbnail in 2nd shot for scale. Please ignore garden dirt under nail.) #snail #miniaturesnail #intheshell
Meet Leon, the scooter thief, in director/co-writer Dylan Bowen’s THE TROUBLING CASE OF THE MISSING MOBILITY SCOOTER. I greatly enjoyed my 3-day shoot on this Metfilm graduate short, which neatly combines some unexpected pathos with quite a lot of daft comedy. (Here’s hoping the mobility scooter isn’t a glimpse of the future for me, but if it is I found it quite fun to ride.) #Metfilm #comedy #shortfilm
Who would have thought it? The Apple Books App shows me that The Complete Works of Lewis’s Carroll were based on Coriolanus, as you can see. I invite you to suggest other writers who based their works on plays by Shakespeare. Perhaps the complete works of Edward Lear were based on the play about his Kingly namesake. #Shakespeare #LewisCarroll #writers #completeworks
Yours truly as the RAIL WORKER in SIGNAL, a short film by writer-director Zak Jarvis, which stars Chris Ecclestone and Jack Rowan. Filmed in listed signal box at Princes Risborough Station on 22nd February. (Sorry if you’ve seen this before. I have reposted, as I deleted it in error,)
Yours truly as the CONCIERGE in Underglass Productions’ bizarre black comedy DEATHBED, written and directed by Henry Fish. I had forgotten this was to be filmed in black and white, with the greater part of my performance seen through a peephole in a hotel door - said peephole being attached to the front of camera by resourceful dop and co-producer Michael Scanlon. As a consequence, the fiercely painful red eye that I endured during the shoot on 21st March will be seen in tasteful tones of grey. DEATHBED was my second film for Henry and Michael - the first, MAELSTROM, winning them a couple of festival awards last year. I hope there will be many more.
