From page to stage! 📓 Alum and choreographer My’Kal Stromile takes us back to the very beginnings of his choreographic process.
“kit-of-parts,” which premieres this Wednesday as part of Juilliard’s New Dances: Edition 2025, started as a series of questions. For My’Kal, dance is an investigation, a way of shaping time and space to reveal connection, touch, and humanness. These explorations are the shapes of New Dances, where choreography lives and changes throughout the rehearsal process.

FEATURE FRIDAY // This Feature Friday, step inside the studio with Choreographer My’Kal Stromile as he brings his world premiere, The Leisurely Installation of a New Window to life, and discover five insights into his choreographic inspiration and career trajectory.
1️⃣ Stromile danced with Boston Ballet for six seasons before transitioning to choreography full time in 2024. 2️⃣ He premiered his first work for Boston Ballet, Form and Gesture, as part of Fall Experience 2023. 3️⃣ He has choreographed for numerous renowned institutions, including the Paris Opera Ballet, The Juilliard School, the Joyce Theater’s UNITE Ballet Festival, AILEY II, and Vail Dance Festival. 4️⃣ Stromile considers himself a movement architect, taking a multidisciplinary approach to his practice, collaborating with artists and technologists. 5️⃣ Like Sir Frederick Ashton’s The Dream, his world premiere pulls from literary inspiration, exploring themes of transformation and human existence laid out in William Blake’s Songs of Innocence and of Experience.
