@drboycefinance The reason I don't care who you vote for is because I haven't seen a lot of evidence to show that a community's quality of life is dramatically improved by politicians. I'm not here to tell you that you're wrong. I'm just here to tell you that I don't see the evidence. If you look at black people's progress through the last 50 years since integration, our children's reading levels are worse than ever. Our families are more broken than ever. Our wealth keeps going down and I just don't know what to say about that. I don't know how we expect that to ever lead to anything good. I'm taking matters into my own hands and using my PhD in finance to teach wealth to as many people as possible and I do it for free quite often. @theorangecrumble Trump’s FCC Chair, Brendan Carr, just said the ugly part out loud. “PBS defunded. NPR defunded. Colbert is leaving. CBS is under new ownership. And soon enough CNN is gonna have new ownership as well.” And he said it like he was reading off a victory lap. Think about how deranged that is. A man in one of the most powerful communications roles in the country is openly gloating about weakening public media, celebrating pressure campaigns against major networks, and hinting at a future where more independent outlets are brought to heel. That is not about “fairness.” That is not about “bias.” That is not about “accountability.” That is about power. This is what authoritarianism looks like when it puts on a suit and speaks in press-release language. It doesn’t always arrive with tanks in the street. Sometimes it arrives with smug little soundbites and a political movement that wants every journalist, comedian, anchor, editor, and broadcaster to either submit or disappear. PBS and NPR are not just random targets. They are public institutions. Colbert is not just a comedian. He’s a critic with a platform. CNN and CBS are not just businesses to these people. They are obstacles. And that is the point. Trump and the people around him do not want a free press. They want a loyal press. They do not want scrutiny. They want obedience. They do not want criticism. They want silence. So when Brendan Carr brags like this, believe him. Because this is not some offhand comment. It is a window into exactly what they are trying to build: A country where media survives only if it flatters the regime. That should terrify every American, left, right, or independent. Because once the people in power start cheering the collapse, intimidation, or capture of independent media, democracy is already in very serious trouble.
