Now “GLU” by Usher - I wish I posted this days before it came out cause this mentally destroyed me.
The past three years have completely reshaped who I am, not just as a creator, but as a person. They changed the way I see the world, how I move through it, who I trust... but not how I love. That’s the one thing that’s stayed the same. No matter what I’ve been through, I never stopped giving. Never stopped showing up for people. Even when it hurt.
There were times I was taken advantage of, by people I loved deeply, people I trusted. My ex, who cheated on me after using me. People I thought truly cared, only for their true intentions to reveal themselves when it was too late. And still, I kept giving.
When I wrote the original version of “Glu”, it was called “Brown Eyed Girl”. It was about that same ex, someone I loved so intensely, so purely. And even though that chapter closed in pain, it still came from love. Every note, every lyric.
At 26, I had my first #1 record I wrote for Usher “Glu”. It topped the R&B charts for two weeks. A dream come true, n also a harsh lesson. I wasn’t paid or credited, I was handed Gucci outfits and told that should be enough. (Though I had music stolen from me already) This was different.. That moment taught me something crucial, that I had to distance myself from the people and systems that didn’t value me. It felt right. I knew I had to.
In those years, I lost people. I grieved, often in silence. I didn’t go outside for 2–3 years. I disappeared, but not into nothing. I dove headfirst into what I loved: coding, development, and building a world where others could live out their wildest dreams. A world where they could be seen, heard, accepted. A place that felt safe something I think I was always searching for myself.
There’s a saying about Aquarians:
“You like taking care of people because it heals the part of you that needed someone to take care of you.” And that hit me.
I want you all to know, I’m back, I’m refreshed, I am stronger, and more ready than ever to face the world again. This time NOTHING will stand in my way.
