HOT POTATO by @candicebreitz @kowberlin opens tonight at 6pm, come and join us! For the first 3 days of the exhibition Candice will be staging a live performance titled Private Dancer. The exhibition will run until June 27. "As calls to untether art from politics proliferate in Germany and beyond, Hot Potato traces the historically fraught relationship between artists and the authorities that preside over them - by means of appropriative homages." Deeply grateful that I got the opportunity to join Candice´s film Dear Esther, a 45min homage to the late great musician and antifascist activist Esther Bejerano, which will be shown at the exhibition. A series of Appropriated Posters will be available throughout the exhibition as well. All income generated from sales will be donated to Medico´s International emergency fund for communities facing devastation in Gaza and the West Bank 🇵🇸❤️. Birgit is a Vienna-born, Berlin-based filmmaker, actress, and founder of the production company LEYENDAS, where she develops and produces projects across film, theater, literature, and music. She studied musical theater and directing (Master of Arts, University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna) and later moved to Los Angeles to study film acting with Eric Morris. Her career spans over three decades — from working in front of the camera (60+ roles since 1996) to developing and producing stories from the inside out. Her first feature film Freak City (producer, writer, actress), supported by the Wim Wenders Scholarship, premiered at the Hof International Film Festival. It remains a deeply personal project, known for its emotional honesty and inclusive storytelling about the relationship between a hearing boy and a deaf girl. Other award-winning works include the web series Another Day in Paradise and Wind On Your Skin, filmed in Namibia. As an actress, she became widely known across Europe for her lead role as “Raven” in the action-comedy series Wild Angels. Through her work both in front of and behind the camera — as well as her experience with the Torino Film Lab, serving on the International Emmy Awards jury, and years of navigating international festivals such as the Festival de Cannes — she has developed a deep understanding of the creative, entrepreneurial, and human sides of the industry. #funding #filmmaking #filmfestivals #audiencedesign
