Short, clean, effective, nu-jazz, 2026 edition.
SMIL by @iam9ick is a clear example of what modern nu-jazz does best: a clean blend of contemporary jazz and instrumental hip-hop, without overproduction or unnecessary flex.
The tracks are short, sometimes too short, but always efficient. The production is tight, textures are well controlled, and the collaborations (especially with Braxton Cook) land exactly where they should.
This isnāt an album trying to reinvent the genre.
Itās an album you can press play on anytime and just let it run.
And honestly, thatās more than enough.
We are keeping it jazzy this Saturday afternoon with the 3rd album āSMILā from producer/artist @iam9ick on the store system. Over the course of 12 cuts we ride into the day on a modern jazz infused trip crafted in collaboration with both top international and local musicians and producers. In store and online!
