The Loudoun Career Firefighters Association spent the past few days down in Richmond along with Virginia Professional Firefighters members from all overa the Commonwealth lobbying on bills that affect Virginia's First Responders.
A few of the bills we lobbied for were
HB205/SB304 Va. Retirement System; enhanced retirement benefits for 911 dispatchers.
https://lis.virginia.gov/bill-details/20261/HB205
This bill would allow for localities to give our 911 Dispatchers the same retirement benefits as other First Responders in Virginia.
HB865 Workers' compensation; presumption of compensability for certain cancers.
https://lis.virginia.gov/bill-details/20261/HB865
This bill would clarify that lung cancer is indeed an occupational cancer and add Non-Hodgkins lymphoma as an occupational cancer to the list of other occupational cancers.
HB393 First Responders Cancer Screening Fund
https://lis.virginia.gov/bill-details/20261/HB393
This would create the First Responders Cancer Screening Fund to provide funding to localities for cancer screenings for firefighters and emergency responders across Virginia.
HB1317/SB523 Line of Duty Act; payments to beneficiaries.
This bill would expand occupational cancer Line of Duty Death Act benefits so that if a First Responder dies from occupational cancer within 10 years of retirement, they receive LODA benefits. The current law is 5 years post retirement.
There are many other bills the VPFF is supporting and lobbying for.

It is with profound sadness that the members of the Loudoun Career Firefighters Association, Local 3756, announce the untimely passing of one of our most cherished members, Captain Dannie Wilson.
After a courageous but brief battle with cancer, Dannie left us far too soon. To those who knew him, Dannie was more than just a firefighter, he was a mentor, a leader, and a friend. From his earliest days as a volunteer in Sterling, transitioning to a career firefighter after being hired with LCFR on January 1, 2000, to his final assignment as Captain of Round Hill Fire Station 4, Dannie’s fingerprints are all over the history and growth of Loudoun County Fire and Rescue.
He trained and guided countless firefighters, shaping not only their careers but also the culture of our fire service. His steady presence on the fireground, his quick wit, and his unbreakable love for the Pittsburgh Steelers lifted spirits and inspired confidence when it was needed most.
Dannie’s legacy will live on in every firefighter he taught, every life he touched, and every memory shared around the kitchen table or on the front line.
Our hearts are with Dannie’s family as they grieve this unimaginable loss. They remain part of our firehouse family forever, surrounded by the same strength and support Dannie gave to so many throughout his life.
Rest easy, brother, we will take it from here.
8.27.25. 141 N. Fillmore Ave in Sterling Park. Reported apartment fire on the 3rd floor. Crews forced entry to find a burning bathroom fan with minor extension.
The famlies of fallen firefighters, the Loudoun Career Firefighters Association, the Virginia Professional Firefighters, and IAFF members from across the the US were in DC this week lobbying for the Honoring Our Fallen Heroes Act of 2025 (S.237 &H.R 1269).
The bill would add occupational cancer to the Public Safety Officers' Benefits Program (PSOB). Currently, the Federal government does not recognize occupational cancer as a Line of Duty Death criteria, despite it being the #1 killer of Firefighters.
We urge you to contact your Congressional representatives and ask them to sign onto the bill. https://www.congress.gov/members/find-your-member
Fire Department are all hazards organizations, which means whatever the emergency is, we respond. Structure fire, vehicle accident, medical emergency, you name it, we do it. So when a brood of ducklings wandered into a drain and couldn’t get out, the crews from Engine 609 in Arcola and Rescue 635 from Sterling responded to assist.
Members were able to work with the other agencies on scene to successfully reunite the 5 ducklings with Mama duck and the rest of the brood. 🦆 🦆 🦆 🦆 🦆
