An archival volume shedding new light on one of the most iconic record cover images in French popular culture.
Bleu Melody is a publication by French photographer Tony Frank. It brings together rare archival material related to Serge Gainsbourg’s 1971 album Histoire de Melody Nelson, whose cover featured Jane Birkin, then Gainsbourg’s wife. Through contact sheets, slides, proofs and Frank’s own recollections of the shoot, the book revisits a world-famous image from multiple angles and offers a renewed understanding of its making.
More than a simple archival supplement, the publication reveals the photographic process behind an image that has become inseparable from the mythology surrounding Gainsbourg and Birkin. It stands as both a document of a particular moment in French visual culture and a compact but rich study of image-making itself.

Through the marginal figures of Óscar and Gabrielle, the book explores themes of exclusion, control and desire.

A photobook with an innovative acrylic-bound form, exploring how images appear, overlap and take shape beyond narrative or fixed meaning.
This year’s model is a photobook by Japanese photographer Go Itami. Rather than focusing on the pre-photographic question of what to shoot and how to shoot it, Itami’s interest lies in how an image appears after it has become a photograph, and why it comes to look the way it does. Through photographs in which transparency, reflection, repetition and layering intertwine, his work does not foreground meaning or narrative, but presents itself as a kind of visual composite.
By distilling this distinctive perspective into book form, This year’s model directs attention less to the relationships that emerge from turning pages than to the force of each individual image. Its unusual construction, in which the stack of photographs is held between acrylic covers, further sharpens the work’s visual intensity.
