Today has been an absolute milestone!
For years we have been using PLA plastic to make prototypes and one of the issues with PLA is that it is not use able in actual prototype testing (at least not under the conditions we subject it to). A few months ago we were introduced to #onyx and decided to take the plunge last week.
Shown are 3 different versions with different composite make up. Onyx to onyx reinforced with maximum carbon fibre. This is the future of prototyping!
Not only can we test our prototypes rigorously but we can make revisions without having to touch a single CNC. No more wasting aluminum cutting production time way down.
Now you are going to laugh but the first time a Carbon Fibre 3D printed part outside of aerospace has been used on the G60. Yes that is right , in the VW/Audi world a G60 got the first part.... (insanity happened many moons ago)
Shown is a crankcase breather box with rear support that has universal fitment on either the older style blocks (PG/9A) or the updated blocks (ABF /AEB etc) printed in onyx and then we have a part that I have been dreaming about for 10+ years.
Ever got tired of having to play with that silly tensioner spring? Enter an adapter that allows the use of any common Audi/VW 1.8T serpentine tensioner. This will under go actual testing in a running vehicle.

Decided to burn the midnight oil and finally finish this now that the 1.8T housings are off to anodizing.
Looks like Diesel ALH and ALH hyrbid owners can rejoice tonight as well.
