Lights On - Leicester 5th April 2026 In the early to mid 2000s @abashantiofficial would be playing in leicester sometimes as often as once a month.. Baba would organise these dances, and while working for the council he got around all about town, so dubplates, session tapes and that sort of thing was always blasting from his car loud, posters and fliers always with him, the poster to the next dance always on his bay window at his house (round the corner from mine eventually). All the shops around ‘fields and beyond had fliers and posters too, those days promoting was a lot of footwork. Baba was the kindest guy, always supporting and caring about the community, but he could also be tuff as nails, and at the door, at Poonana downstairs at the basement sessions I seen him with my own shocked eyes slap first degree family for not acting appropriately. You would not mess with Baba at the door at the dance trust me.. it was a foundation for so many of i&i in Leicester. Somehow now, more than 20 years on, that baton has been passed on to I to carry on the works and i&i are very aware of this always, very honoured and totally mind-blown how life brings things like things together. Hope the man is looking down and smiling at all the usual madness behind the scenes at a dance and hope the man is proud of the history continuing.. I was reasoning about all this outside with @bloodshanti at this most recent dance and he said you should post this, so here it is, in the best words I can find.. big up @2funkycomplex and big up all you and you and you!
