Hey, I’m Heather, just wanted to tell you a little bit about the human behind the art.
Tattooing is a really big part of my life, and a obsessive passion, but it is very much fuelled by (and second to) my love for nature, animals, ecology, interconnectedness, connections with other humans, learning, and receiving the teachings of the deep wisdom present in the natural world.
I am across-the-board anti-oppression; for humans, the land/earth, animals, and energy in general. I have a very left leaning, anarchist and iconoclastic bent in almost every direction. I am of irish descent, and deeply animistic, matriarchal, vegan, and ecologically conservative (while being conservative NOWHERE else in my life.)
I am a mom to an amazing teenager and three cats.
I have been tattooing for 26 years, which is longer than some of my clients have been alive…. which is crazy to me! Sometimes I moonlight as a photographer, painter, muralist, graphic designer, illustrator, installation artist, writer, mentor and teacher. Art and creativity are tools through which I can digest and understand the world, and to hold a mirror up to it.
I am a guardian for Haven Tattoo in (Calgary), it is truly one of my favourite places to be. I love creating a safe and welcoming space for our artists and clients there, and try to apply all of my ethics and values from above here at the studio.
My favourite thing about tattooing is connecting with people that I wouldn’t otherwise cross paths with. I love being able to illustrate peoples ideas for them. I feel very grateful for this life and this role.
Oh, I’m also a huge idiot and love dumb dad jokes, portmanteau, and being a performative dork for my friends and family (and sometimes my clients.)

Once I have received your completed submission, and once I get caught up on my emails, I will message you back. (Please remember that I am a one woman show and sometimes it can take me a few weeks to catch up on emails… as I don’t do things on an emergency basis.)
Generally, I do 2-4 consult days per year, and take on a small cluster of new projects 2 to 4 times a year.
Thank you for your patience with the whole process, as I try to allocate most of my time and attention to my clients that I am currently involved in projects with! Don’t be afraid to send me a nudge email if we slip through the cracks!

Sometimes you just get lucky and make a new pal from tattooing them! Thank you Eric for being such a genuinely good human and for connecting me to a network of ideas, books, articles and perspectives I needed. It’s so great to connect with anyone who is across the board anti oppression.
Eric’s tattoo is about the interconnectivity of all things (and the importance of metacognition and having experiences that widen your perception of your impact on the world.) We did it in three full day sessions- his knee and back of calf are fresh in these photos and everything else is healed. I’m sure I’ll want to do some touch ups / nit-picking on some spots. We are SO excited to welcome back @hyphaea for another year of WTC!
This year she will be covering form, function and flow. Her seminar explores her process for mapping and designing large scale tattoos, along with fundamental design principles that apply to tattoos of any size.
Heather has been tattooing for 26 years, and has been teaching tattoo education for the last 5. She brings a ton of valuable experience to the table, and we can’t wait to learn from her on this essential topic.

Had a lovely day at the G-spot (if you know, you know) with one of my Queenager clients and her amazing daughter. We had a cute hike and saw some geese and talked about emotional intelligence, the patriarchy, and noticing that you are both the arsonist AND the firefighter. I made these Buddha and Quanyin tattoos for Tania in 2017 so they are nine years healed! Very happy with how bright the color still is!
