pushead x squeal......... word has been filtering in, that SQUEAL has passed away. a truly gifted and amazing artist, he's known for being the godfather of crust / black metal lettering, the many icons of filth covers and illustrations, the back cover of septic death 'now...', and (he also did for pusmort), what would become the poison idea symbolic skull (from 'kings of punk'). he stayed away from the spotlight and just let his scratching do the talking.....volumes were spoken! was always a great pleasure to get a letter from wales, and see it handlettered in that scratchy thorn style, as well as xeroxes of new amazing illos inside. rest in artistic paradise. the legend niall grows ! never forget.....
this image is based on an original pencil illo, made for a copper etching, from 1984, that SQUEAL took a xerox of, modified and airbrushed it until it was a 12" x 12" square in 1987. signing it 'pusqueal'....as a sort of past / present concept and execution collab.
