we‘re beyond happy to have
@wooly.aziz with us for a dj-set at
@kwia.berlin on april 5th!
Wooly Aziz is transcending borders with atmospheric dissonance and storytelling, embroidered with bass and synth - a love misplaced, migration dawning, and the sun setting in exile. Wooly Aziz is a Berlin-based bass project by Jannat Sohail from Pakistan, best described as composing tales of love and war. Also listed in the Alternative Power 100 Music List (2020) for Resilience and Adaptability, Wooly Aziz deconstructs an expansive electronic palette, exploring the infectious liberation in sound.
Born in Lahore, Pakistan, Wooly Aziz carries a sense of gripping urgency to explore sonic trails of socio-political underlayers and collective voices. Wooly Aziz also established Found Collective, which aspires to facilitate and radicalize creative exchange by and for BIPOC* artists, especially subject to migration gaps.
As a part of
@femmebassmafia Wooly Aziz learned the theatrics of the dancefloor, lacing the start to an all-encompassing end. A playful immersion within harmony and tension, Wooly Aziz’s sound can be hinted towards by genre-fluid breaks, electro dissonance, crescending percussions, ghettotech, and bass-heavy depths of garage.
Wooly Aziz also delves into performance with their solo, progressive soul project suitably described as “left-field electronic” by Rolling Stone and “soulful synth” with an “immersive atmosphere” by Various Small Flames. In their newly conceptualized album, Wooly Aziz expresses the emotional arc of a migrant, from the first track, called Take Off, to the last one, Landing.
