we‘re beyond happy to have @wooly.aziz with us for a dj-set at @kwia.berlin on april 5th! Wooly Aziz is transcending borders with atmospheric dissonance and storytelling, embroidered with bass and synth - a love misplaced, migration dawning, and the sun setting in exile. Wooly Aziz is a Berlin-based bass project by Jannat Sohail from Pakistan, best described as composing tales of love and war. Also listed in the Alternative Power 100 Music List (2020) for Resilience and Adaptability, Wooly Aziz deconstructs an expansive electronic palette, exploring the infectious liberation in sound. Born in Lahore, Pakistan, Wooly Aziz carries a sense of gripping urgency to explore sonic trails of socio-political underlayers and collective voices. Wooly Aziz also established Found Collective, which aspires to facilitate and radicalize creative exchange by and for BIPOC* artists, especially subject to migration gaps. As a part of @femmebassmafia Wooly Aziz learned the theatrics of the dancefloor, lacing the start to an all-encompassing end. A playful immersion within harmony and tension, Wooly Aziz’s sound can be hinted towards by genre-fluid breaks, electro dissonance, crescending percussions, ghettotech, and bass-heavy depths of garage. Wooly Aziz also delves into performance with their solo, progressive soul project suitably described as “left-field electronic” by Rolling Stone and “soulful synth” with an “immersive atmosphere” by Various Small Flames. In their newly conceptualized album, Wooly Aziz expresses the emotional arc of a migrant, from the first track, called Take Off, to the last one, Landing. c u at kwia berlin // 20h // april 5th

Yoel (they/them) a.k.a. @dominicxn.papi is a Black queer transmasc DJ looking for community and who is trying to connect people through music! They especially love inviting BIPoC, trans siblings, and FLINTA* to join on the dance floor and shake some ass!  For Yoel, music is resistance, connection, and freedom. Any kind of discrimination has no place on the dance floor! They love blending rhythms from their homeland (D.R.) like salsa, merengue, reggaeton (and more) with the music Yoel grew up with here in Germany: pop/rap edits, techno, UKG, bass, Jersey, Brazilian funk/phonk, and much more… 📍Jaki Cologne 🗓️ Friday, 20.03. doors open at 23:30 🎫 12€ at the door

Shadysnack (she/her) brings us on a journey through the story of House music, travelling the passages of sound from Disco to Deep House. She invites the listener to lay back and sit in the groove, building up a trance-like atmosphere which makes it hard not to move. She brings softness, love and uplifting energies to the dancefloor, with an emphasis on reminding us that the roots of Disco come from African-American resistance and that House Music is therefore a political sound. Come spiral with her through the undulating sounds of Ho 📍Jaki Cologne 🗓️ Friday, 20.03. doors open at 23:30 🎫 12€ at the door

We‘re so looking forward to our next event on the 30th of January where we‘ll collaborate with the flinta* residents of @tiba_cologne <3 The TIBA Residents emerged from the opening party of @tiba_cologne 2023 in Cologne. What began as a platform for Black & Brown artists brought visibility to DJ talent from the own community – and other artists joined in. TIBA Movement e.V. is a cultural organization that empowers and represents Black & Brown people. With a focus on Afrofuturism, educational work and the roots of electronic music, “Techno Is Black Again” stands for Black past, present, and future.
